Background of both: Katie was an average person, but you know how these superhero origin stories go. Fell into nuclear waste, yada yada yada, bada bing bada boom Katie is now a super heroine. However Katie's power has been split into two different personas. The first persona is Katie herself where she wears a blue uniform and red cape, and has the ability to fly and be super strong. Her second persona is the Shadow self who wears all black and Katie's hair turns black. This is why Katie calls herself Ms. Duo because she has two personas she changes between. The Shadow self has all of the same abilities as Katie, but also has two new ones. The Shadow self gives Ms. Duo a high defense which allows her to not be damaged easily by objects such as bullets or falling buildings, and the Shadow self can clone herself allows Ms. Duo to have multiple versions of herself fight crime. Now while this is cool Ms. Duo cannot just change into the Shadow self when ever she feels like it. She can only turn into the Shadow self when she is in serious danger. Katie has never told anyone that she is a super heroine, but when have any superheroes told the people they know they were superheroes.

P.S. When Ms. Duo is the Shadow self her personality changes. She has more attitude and sass, so don't piss off the Shadow self.
