Description 1:3.5 scale model Lego Optimus Prime.

a project that initially began in the summer of 2009. originally started out as a head sculpt, then became a bust.. now I've built his entire body.
fully articulate: head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers, waist, upper legs, knees, ankles, and toes are all poseable.
i overlapped the entire model in three screen shots, since he's so tall.
model is 23,460 bricks total and stands at about 256 bricks in height which i've calculated out to be at 8 feet tall.

Program used is LDD; Lego Digital Designer.

correct. some of my work has been featured already in official work, so this isn't the only case where i will not disclose the plans.

what i find really insane, is that my laptop didn't explode on me when i first loaded the full model!

wow. Isn't there a thing where you can put your designs for sale on the Lego website? I'm sure some idiot would be willing to spend about £2000 on it!

archus7 In reply to ToaTom [2013-01-26 12:52:11 +0000 UTC]

well yes, the program itself can do that. and as i said in a previous comment, it would come out to anywhere from $5,400 to $6,000. ((£4,010.69 to £4,456.33)) but as of now the build plans are private until i show them to Hasbro and Lego because of copyright purposes, so i can possibly take up a commission to build it in real life as part of an exhibit at LEGO Land or any where else.

Oh wow! Does that mean Lego will make Transformers sets? I would definitely make a special trip to Legoland to see the finished ...monument!

well i really have no say in official Lego Transformers sets. Kre-O's already doing that. many people have been commissioned to build large scale projects. so i'd like to get in on a similar project too. ((i would also hope to be able to build in multiple Legolands))

O.O

The amount of time spent on this would make my head spin. I applaud thee on thy perseverance!
Btw, I've always wondered how many pieces the program could handle before it crashes the computer completely. I know that some older PCs that I've worked on have struggled around the 1k piece mark. Have you experienced any drop in frame rate when working on this masterpiece?

archus7 In reply to darthpuffball [2013-01-26 08:27:51 +0000 UTC]

actually a bit yes, but not significantly thankfully. i have split the model into two halves; the upper torso, arms and head half, and lower torso and legs half, to continue work. as of now, the upper half is at over 11,649 bricks and everything is running smoothly. surprising since i'm running it on a 5 year old macbook.

Nice! I can't wait to see the finished project! (That said though, take your time. I know how long these things can take, and the longer they take the better they look, case and point)

archus7 In reply to darthpuffball [2013-01-26 21:26:29 +0000 UTC]

amen to that! this project has been ongoing for about 4 and half years.. of course i won't truly consider it done until it's been built in real life.

This here, is a piece if art.
I have never seen a single more accurate Optimus Prime model in my entire life, nor a bigger one.
You have used size to master detail, and have made perfection. This deserves a favorite for sure. Heck, I can't figure out why this doesn't have thousands of views yet!

archus7 In reply to legomadman [2013-01-26 04:27:15 +0000 UTC]

well thank you. this model had much more view time on it's original post site, mocpages.. but even now as i'm writing this, i'm still working on it. it's still got a long way to go before he's done!

More?! Wow. I can't even begin to wonder what you could add (I did see the other pictures on the MOC page) besides maybe more weapons. Can't wait to see it finished!

Question: How much would it have cost if you were to actually buy this?
O.O You are amazing btw

archus7 In reply to MusicMaster999 [2012-08-02 02:04:25 +0000 UTC]

the head alone is over $300 and is about 1,200 bricks. so by this knowledge.. we can take the number of pieces in the head and divide it by the number of pieces total in the entire model and get about 18 now multiply that by 300 and we get $5,400. so anywhere between 5,400 and 6,000, i'm assuming, will be the cost to build this.
