The tokota lined themselves up on opposing sides of the shore, the icy river between them a glimmering rainbow strip as the sky above changed colors. On one side stood the tribe's pack leaders, and representing them Erland and Pukajaak. On the other, the tribe's prestige breeders, represented by Asher and Laurancia. It seemed to be a fair matchup. Dante hefted up the heavy, curled lump of rope and threw one end to Salima, the other handler across the river. She caught it easily and grinned at the young man. He smirked, and the pair began to unravel the rope from each end, lining the flag up over the river. Dante offered the rope on his side to the two large creatures on his side. Asher took the rope firmly, though Maple was a bit more cautious. On the opposite bank, Salima did the same, until all four tokota were ready to go.

"On my mark!" Salima called, a cold breeze rustling hair and fur alike. Dante took a step back, arms folding over his chest. The tokota braced themselves, muscles tensed. The tribe's handlers had shown them how this game was played, they were ready.

"Three!" the woman shouted, one arm going up in the air.

"Two!" You could almost feel the tension humming through the cold night.

"One!" Teeth grinded together and the tokota got their last minute grips adjusted.

"Pull!"

The tokota immediately yanked backwards on their sides of the rope, claws digging furrows into the ground as they strained against one another.
