I've always kinda hated this panel. Even as I was drawing it, I knew something was up with it, but for whatever reason I couldn't draw it properly.

And it sucks that the panel that looks the worst is a very critical one in understanding what happens in the first chapter.

On this page, Mousefall (the medicine cat) explains to Mallowfur what will happen when Mallowfur receives his lives. They are at the Moonpool by the way, with a bit of light from the stars and moon coming from overhead.

Mousefall's just frowning because he has a constant state of anxiety (sometimes it's small, sometimes it's big). It's not the same thing as Alderheart.
Both his parents were killed by Gorseheart. Whether this was when he was an apprentice or full medicine cat, I'm not sure yet. It really struck him, and it wasn't better that his brother, Cloudspeck, stopped being close with him since they became apprentices and separated onto different paths.
