This is a fantastic ID. Too bad dA is limited in 3D. You're very correct to say it's "hypnotic."
I've been watching it awhile now. Will go to my profile page and feature it. Thank you.

smiths never made cogs...
gears have always been stamped in metal, not hammered.
and why dont you know this?

There are a few things that stand out to me in this one.
- There is some noticeable "wrinkling" in the gears that I'm pretty sure is caused by adding a subsurf modifier when the model is made up of tris. If you could modify the model to use quads instead, that should help smooth it out.
- There is a noticeable gap between every two links in the horizontal chain.
- You can see some dirt and scratches on the top right gear suddenly disappear when the animation repeats.
- I'm kind of confused by the swinging light. Since we can't see it, there's no explanation for why it's perpetually swinging, and it seems to be bouncing off of something when the animation loops rather than freely swinging back and forth.
- Most gears I've seen have spokes that are an equal width from the inside to the outside (or at least have less variation in width along their length) similar to the wheel in the top left. Not necessarily saying it's wrong, but it seems a bit odd since it goes against the norm.
Other than that it looks quite good, especially considering the limited number of colors due to the GIF format. The materials look nice and brassy, and I like how you can see the light reflecting off the gears onto the back wall.

Hi,
You're right about almost all, but the model is made up of quads
Thanks for the detailed comment. You are very observant, an excellent quality for an artist.

You're quite welcome!
I'm kind of surprised about the quads, though. I can't think of anything else that would cause that except maybe doubled vertices, and that's still pretty iffy... Now you've got me curious. Is there any chance I could take a look at the .blend file to see the topology for the gears?

I would find out for myself what is wrong, I think it's a good exercise in modeling
Then I will send you a message.
