Description Such a great question that got me thinking interesting things!..I could make a whole Doujin out of this idea if I had time!

anyways here are more thoughts on this….I researched other peoples ideas on this subject at this was my favorite answer:

β€œThe British had a hard time believing that one of their upstart colonies could actually beat them in battle. They were a world power, but at the time, they were severely overstretched, France was fighting them on the European continent and America was really far off to quickly get British troops on her shores. Plus that, the French were here, too! Be safe in knowing, though, that the Brits had plans once the Colonies caved. First, and foremost was the plan to turn it back into the British colonies and setting up a British governor in each state (they had already started doing this). The British Prime Minister, Lord North, planned on letting the colonials off with a wrist slap, though. They would have been given the right to tax themselves and the colonials would be forgiven for their transgressions against the motherland. However, the Continental Congress would have been abolished. There was no need to have any more sedition coming out of them and the leaders would have been hung. This includes people like Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin. All British Loyalists within the states would be repaid for their losses in full. They also planned on giving the land north of the Ohio River to the Great Lakes to Canada.

On the other hand, Mexico could still be like the second biggest country in the world...and still had California....

interesting, maybe canada would have ended up with 14 or even 15 provinces and territorys. so many things wold have changed if america lost the revolutionary war. who know what could have happened. imagine canada would have become eve more loyal to britain and more of a pacifist country after seeing all the poinless fighting.

This is definitely an interesting possibility to consider.
Personally, I think America wouldn't have just given up. The Americans were at the point where anything the British did was just fuel on the fire(the Tea Act actually reduced the price of tea, but the colonists still hated it because accepting it would mean accepting parliment's right to tax them) and most of the country was on the patriot's side, openly or not. The British might give the colonies the right to tax themselves, but Britain was hugely in debt at this time, so either this would change and new taxes would be imposed or the states would be forced to overtax their citizens to raise money for Britain. Either way, the colonists would blame the British for high taxes. Also, now that they'd started considering themselves a seperate country, it was really too late to go back. The colonists had lost all respect for the British and proven to themselves that they could function as their own country. To them, there was no reason to remain under British rule.
Most likely, the many of the leaders of the revolution would escape, those that didn't would become martyrs, resistance would move underground, and a second war would break out within ten years. The British, already weakened by the first war, would likely lose. Or, the British might have simply granted the Americans independence once they became too difficult(read: expensive) to handle.
Plus, I can't see Al giving up and being "docile." He's too stubborn. Anything England did to him would only make him more determined.
But that's just me

Yes, we Brits are amazing in quite a pompous way. XD

... Were we really even that bad as an empire? All the little English colonies in Africa and India that we had... after they got their independance, they seemed to be a lot worse off afterwards...

I guess it's mainly that we were power hungry though like "hahaha... I have yet another colony" and countries just wanted to be free; even if they did end up worse of. Don't know OTL

But they still ended up worse off so I wonder that, if the choice arose, would they still choose freedom?
I dunno either. OTL

Yup, which is why it's awesome we opted out of joining this "all powerful" Euro

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tymki In reply to RandomUsernameThing [2011-11-07 14:20:30 +0000 UTC]

The euro's the reason I think the Greek economy's so effed up at the moment, to be honest. It's only good to have an 'all powerful' economy when you can keep up with all the other countries.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RandomUsernameThing In reply to tymki [2011-11-08 00:10:25 +0000 UTC]

That's true. The Euro does annoy me though with the whole idea that it would be some super currency; we're British, we have out queen on our currency - how is this weird?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tymki In reply to RandomUsernameThing [2011-11-08 10:38:39 +0000 UTC]

I know! The pound is part of what makes us who we are! We're already losing our national identity really quickly because of immigration and selling all of our companies to other people, mostly China. So for us to get the euro instead... would be just plain stupid. The pound's doing better, anyway. =3

...

I actually thought of a hetalia doujinshi about this matter. And also about the history of Britain.
But of course, since I suck at drawing... XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RandomUsernameThing In reply to tymki [2011-11-10 16:52:22 +0000 UTC]

Is is; it's kind of sad that we seem to becoming more European and less British, if that makes sense. So much of the UK is immigrants and there's more foreign shops and food than local ones. It's sad how people seem to want to get rid of the monarch too; it's part of the British image (seen as I have no better way of putting it) and our history - I'd hate to lose the queen.

And fair enough
Aww D: Shame; I'd read it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tymki In reply to RandomUsernameThing [2011-11-11 01:27:31 +0000 UTC]

Know anyone who'd be willing to draw out my ideas in comic form? =3

I think the UK's strength and weakness now is its generosity. To be an all-powerful country, you need to have no benefits system or free healthcare, where people really need to work and hard to make a decent living. I think that it's a great thing that we have them, but that's part of the reason people immigrate over here in the first place, and why some people are incredibly lazy. And I'd hate it if we lost the monarchy completely.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RandomUsernameThing In reply to tymki [2011-11-12 00:06:10 +0000 UTC]

Not sure D:

Ahh true, sounds about right. It annoys me how so many immigrants end up with better conditions than out elderly though

Losing the monarch would be terrible D:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tymki In reply to RandomUsernameThing [2011-11-14 14:20:17 +0000 UTC]

I can't really talk from experience about the elderly though. It seems that all of my grandparents are doing pretty well, but I think that something does need to be done to improve facilities for elderly people everywhere. We need to take care of them more.

Actually, I almost saw the Queen on Friday. She went to Margate, which is very near where I live!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RandomUsernameThing In reply to tymki [2011-11-14 17:54:52 +0000 UTC]

Aye :S It's like when it was in the news about some elderly woman dying in her home because she couldn't afford heating so she died of cold.

Nice I saw the Duke of Kent at my college today but that's if for my brushes with royalty.
