The impossible energy in him was too much to be contained in his own hide.

With a loud whinny, he hops and kicks-- not too close to his person, close enough to make him swear and laugh with a teasing shake of his removed halter.

Frequent rains gifted the rolling hills with thick lush grass and flowers. The young stallion kicks and rolls in the grass, snatching a mouthful of flowers before taking off. His long tail trailed behind him, growing thicker as the hair began to grow back with proper nutrition. A cool spring breeze kissed along his flanks, unable to touch ribs that once stuck out like fence posts surrounding fields.

His person still hadn't ridden him. He had a limp still, but no longer the disgustingly sweet smell of injury clinging to him. He often sat in the grass and watched the stallion run and stretch out his legs on new ground. He knew how to care for the stallion like a rider.

Found all his good scratching spots, kept his hooves trimmed and in shape-- it was a surprise to the stallion that his legs no longer hurt, unaware that his picky digestive system had an impact on his hoof growth and formation.

The lack of extreme stress and short rations from what his person called 'war' was the instigating cause that turned into a gut that couldn't handle dense grain as his predominant food source.

Unknown to the stallion, it was this same 'war' that caused the pain to his person. In the form of aches and broken bones that kept him from showing the stallion the full extent of his new freedom around him. Among open lands that stretched dozens of miles around the simple town, leagues away from anywhere close to military maneuvers.

But that was all behind them both.
