Description
The Half Life 2 beta predecessor to the c17 scanner. It is also way cooler than the retail scanner, because unlike the virgin retail scanner it doesn't just be an annoying nuisance and hover around and camera flash you over and over until it inevitably drives you up the wall and you shoot the shit out of it and it kamikazes you. No instead the chad combot will actually talk to the subject in question asking them to submit to a scan for any weapons or other contraband the Combine do not want citizens having. If it approves of you post scan it will let you go on your merry way with a "You may proceed", but if it finds you have something like a shotgun or a crowbar in your possession it will reply with a "Violation has been noted". It will then proceed to gas the offending subject with a neurotoxin until they die. This makes the combot way more of an active threat than the scanner and plus the sound effects and random idle chirps it makes just sound way better than the retail scanner, and THE FACT IT TALKS IS AMAZING! I could see it also possibly flying around the city spouting propaganda when it's not actively scanning anyone or something along the lines of that too. For the rest of the game after Gordon escapes City 17 and is deemed an anti-citizen I could see it just not asking for a scan as you're now a full on enemy to the Combine and it just attacks on sight or maybe spouts off what your are charged with like the Overwatch voice does. It wouldn't be anywhere in the wasteland though as the cut wasteland scanner would obviously take it's place and I'd see it as a sturdier version of the combot more fit to endure the harsh wasteland environment and is simply equiped with better armaments (a fucking laser cannon for crying our loud). I think in later parts of the game outside of the city the combot would be used to guard combine facilities like the Air Exchange/depot and would be released with manhacks as well just to automatically attack any intruders with extreme prejudice. I also am pretty sure it was going to be depicted as having to recharge it's battery at a charging station or something from the cut audio files. Overall it's a way cooler idea like anything in Half Life 2 beta and it sucks we didn't get it in the final game, but I've found some gmod addons that recreate it with actual scripting which is cool. What do you think? Are you an average city scanner fan or an average combot enjoyer?
