Working on my own personal style for Hollow Knight art, and decided to do an anatomy study for Ghost!

I am going with the Godmaster Ending, where Ghost beat the shit out of Radiance, finding that within her was a seed of something that had driven her mad; meaning she had the infection first, and spread it. (The thing about her being infected is not Canon at all, but ties in with my greater universe xD) With the source gone, the infection went away, and Ghost Ascended and the Hollow Knight lived...

Ghost comes back as the Shade Lord, repairs his shell.. and decides to remain as a powerful Vessel... larger than normal Vessels.. who are already quite tall. He does go back and free the Beast of the Abyss, who takes him under his wing and teaches him how to control his newfound power. He then runs off with Quirrel (WHO LIVES BECAUSE I SAID SO DANG IT) because he.. just, really wants to have a normal life, at least for a bit, with his brother Hollow and his sister Hornet.

In this AU, multiple Vessels survived, and it is getting tied in to my greater world narrative, with the Pale King having interacted with the Beast of the Abyss Xonoth, a Voidborn (My own race) using some of his power to create the vessels and give them life instead of them just.. dying from the Void.

Another little thing about my AU - Hollow was chosen because he seemed to be devoid of emotion. But, just like the rest, he wasn't. Instead... he had a form of something similar to Autism, causing him to be unable to show emotion in the way other bugs would. Because of his hyper fixation on success, he managed to complete and survive the test, and was deemed the perfect vessel. He did, however, have emotion. He just didn't understand how to show it.

ALSO, Vessels in this AU do not grow until exposed to the soul they need to grow (Soul being life energy instead of ... literally, an actual soul). Reason for this is that the Hollow Knight is clearly fully mature, but, was born at the same time as the Knight, who are the same size. The Knight, however, stays TINY, while the Hollow Knight ends up very tall... and, the Broken Vessel is also slightly larger than Little Ghost, and is found outside of the Abyss, with access to life energy in the form of other creatures around them.

In this AU, Hollow is taken in by Hornet, who acts a bit like a big sister, even though she is technically younger. She is able to realize that something isn't quite right with him, and is very accepting of his difference, as well as helping him through nightmares and flashbacks caused by the PTSD of being chained up for so long, and then nearly dying.

As also a divergent from the game canon, the Grimmchild is getting fitted into an old concept of mine, a creature known as a Dreameater, that devours nightmares and the fear they cause. Grimmchild does not cause nightmares, but rather, appears in the nightmare, devours the nightmare, and vanishes, leaving peaceful sleep behind. Grimmchild ends up realizing how useful this ability is as he grows, and actually helps Uncle Hollow through his PTSD as well.
