Description
After Kingdom of Madagascar's demise due to the 1929 crisis, a new fascist regime emerged as the new ruler of Madagascar. Called the "Fanjakana" ("Government" in Malagasy), their goal is to expand Malagasy territory over Africa and free Africans from European colonization.
Ally of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan, the Fanjakana is an Axis member which managed to develop its military in order to achieve continent's conquest.
In 1939, after Hitler's invasion of Poland, Madagascar invaded Portuguese Mozambique, infuriating Britain, France and Portugal, which declared war on Madagascar. While not acting on the European front, British sent their fleet to set Portuguese Mozambique free, but were surprisingly beaten by the large Malagasy float. With Hitler's move on Western Europe, Madagascar took advantage of it and invaded South Africa and other British colonies, as well as annexing French possessions in the Indian Ocean. With France surrendering and British resisting alone, Madagascar is free to move on the continent, supported by the population waiting for liberation.
In the conquered territories, Madagascar installed puppet regimes and governments in favour of Madagascar (ANC in South Africa), while giving locals opportunities such as education, healthcare and protected work. On the other side, people of European descent (Boers, Portuguese, British, French...) were second-class citizens, treated harshly and sometimes required for forced labour or deported.
For the Axis, a war on many fronts (Russia, Africa, Southeast Asia, Pacific, Atlantic...) would bring them victory but many factors (resistance of British and Soviet troops, failure in North Africa, entrance of USA in the war...) revealed their limits.
In 1943, after Italian surrender, Madagascar chose to break with the Axis, forming a block by himself, as the Fanjakana continued to gain more allies and territories (Liberia, Ethiopia, Congo, Horn of Africa...). Even if British and French wanted to mobilize troops on the African front, Madagascar's troops were far more determined to keep their independence rather than being colonized again. This war changed Africa's face forever...
