Ugh. This was taking forever. Talc was in no mood to have to search another set of ruins.
He had been away from his home for about a week now. This was getting annoying.
What was he even doing out here anyway?
It had started with a rumor, something whispered between only the lowest of the King's subjects.
"Hidden somewhere long forgotten, an object with divine power waits to be found."
They all said something like that.
They all also said something about this "magical" relic's ability to bring back the dead.
At any mention of the deceased, Talc's mind would bubble up in a tarpit of memories of his father.
Most were blurred by foalhood... his tall stance; a long, winding scar across his chest; his deep, throaty voice.
His dam's smiling face as his sire embraced them...
But he was dead. Long dead. Talc had little to no goal of bringing him back. It would be messy. His sire's execution was more of a bloodbath.
No. If this relic was really important, he wanted it. Even if just for the pleasure of keeping it away from everyone else.
Plus, the King couldn't blackmail him any longer by holding his mother's life on the line... he would be free. Then he could really protect her.
But he had been gone for a long time. He hadn't found anything, no matter where he searched.
"You'll find it. You'll find it first." He would tell himself as his strong legs carried him across the Vices' deadly terrain.
There had been only a few places left to look... and as Talc stepped into the center of the crumbled stone square, a giant beast reared its head.
Beady eyes fixed on him; it was hungry.
