While graphics have improved over the years, Link's design has taken some definite steps backward. At least when I looked at those chunky pixels, I imagined a cool scrappy kid elf, and not the androgenous pretty boy that Nintendo's designers want him to be now.This was done for the Avalanche blog "Legend of Zelda" tribute for the 25-year anniversary of the first game.

Most people who are so into the androgynous Link (and hurt at you making fun of him) are those who grew up with OoT. Those of us who got to know the original LoZ, A link to the past and the Mario Bros. cartoon shorts would rather see the manly, brown-wearing teenage Link than LadyLink.

Twilight Princess isn't as bad about it as most of them. I mean, he did wear chainmail. And wore pants. And was rather well-muscled.
Skyward sword seems to take some steps back.
There needs to be a balance between bishonen and bulk. Seriously. We could make him a bit pudgy, even.

Haha, I do love your perspective on this. Most people just think "Ya! Now link isn't a blob of pixels!" They forget about the aspect of appearance, though. Everyone wants their characters to be 'pretty'. Different isn't bad. If they have a little edge to them, some crazy defining feature, or look the part of odd life they live, it's really more interesting. You can dress up the same pretty face in different clothes to reflect their 'little adventures' but that's way less fun then having a unique dynamic character!
Now, don't get me wrong, I still love Link, but I definitely do agree designing a character in itself should be a little more creative, maybe roll fitting, and a little less.. "What's publicly appealing?" I think you really made me think about something that's been pushed to the back of my mind with everything going on, and I now have a completely different idea in my head for when I add Link into a sketch of mine of Epona.

The original was a great 8-bit game. AoL was truly epic, tho, and I still hold it as the best Zelda game to come along. LttP and OoT were great for opening up the mythology and folklore of Hyrule, as well as extended the story very well... Every game since... seems like a major Link-flavored fanfic barely based on Hyrule at all, much like the Gameboy LoZ games. I don't mind Link's transitions through the games, because each Link is a different generation in the long-running butt-stomping of Ganondork--er--GanonDORF! But I agree, the Hyrulian universe seems less like it's expanding, more like it's being re-conceptualized. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Awesome piece! I love the dainty-hand-on-sashaying-hip pose that A/G Link has. You can almost hear his undeveloped voice ham out "Oh noes you dihn't!" Congrats on the daily!

You have an interesting viewpoint about link's avolution... but... didn't the elves are supposed to look "pretty" ?.... I mean, talking about the real mitology of them... you know... nowadays most of elves are pretty-androgin boys... like legolas from the lord of the rings lol... [link] xD at least Tolkien thinks that about them. D: maybe nintendo was inspired by tolkien LOL

As I do know, you get to fight link in the series but what game has the most intence link fight? That would be Legend of zelda: a link to the past and four sword, when you get the master sword in a link to the past, you should play the four sword, once you beat it, you go to the pyramid on the dark world on a link to the past.
A perfect time to do this would be right before you fight gannon for the final time, if you drop down where the heart container and in there, you pay the mouse 10 rupees, insted of telling you a story he lets you go in, where you have to beat 4 bosses, after that go back into the middel of the start and go up and over the invisable bridge.
there you will see four sword on the flooring, as you walk to the middel four swords you got from the linking game aperes and gets sucked into the roof, where 1 greenish blue link attacks you, after you beaten all the four insane links the four sword will be flying in a circle in the air and once you get them, you get to see the speical ending where it shows all of the bosses and their name and for the fun of it they show how many items you have used.
Im sorry about this huge lecture, but I just love that game to death x3.

First off, this cracks me up! I love the push to the extremes here. The Link in my mind is somewhere in the middle of these two.
There are some nice textures and stuff happening here too, I especially like the mud spatters on midget Link's tunic.
In official art I never see Link looking overly feminine, I think he looks about right for a teen boy...lean muscle as apposed to bulk, thin but not waifish. His face has gotten a bit prettier over the years but he's still got a super pointy nose and a touch of cute awkwardness I think (though that may come off to me because he's soooooo short! haha)
Now in fan art...OH BOY in fan art everyone draws him as basically a woman >< That irritates me. Of course, I'm pretty sick of seeing characters I can't tell the gender of everywhere. Even more so when the people get offended that you can't tell that they're so obviously a boy *rolls eyes*
