Description
Ok, so this is my very first attempt at painting with Coffee...Hence the title...lol!Thanks goes to my oldest daughter for coming up with the title by the way...
Thank you also to for the lovely reference photo of her beautiful Andalusian Stallion, Bo.
This was so much fun to paint once I figured out just what I was going to do with the background. Lots of fun coming up with the different textures too...I must do more of these.
8 x 10 coffee painting on heavy watercolor paper.
Approximately 6-7 hours work I'm guessing.
Thank you for your faves and comments. They are, as always, greatly appreciated.

You pretty much paint with it like watercolors. I used Nestle instant coffee, and mixed in a little water so you can make different shades. Less water, darker. More water, lighter. Thanks!

Whoa. That is an amazing idea. I may have to try.
Do you wait until the coffee cools down? I imagine the hot temperatures could ruin a brush fairly quick.
And I must say this painting is magnificent. Absolutely beautiful. I love the concept of it and the title =]

I used Nestle instant coffee, so you really don't have to boil the water at all. You use it pretty much like watercolors. The more water you put in the lighter the outcome. Add more dry coffee, the darker it gets. It's almost like glue if you put in lots of the dry coffee, but if you add a little water it softens up again. The darker shades tend to dry shiny, and you can even lighten areas that have already dried with a clean wet brush. That's pretty much how I did the butterfly. It was lots of fun to experiment with. I must do some more of these. I already have a few ideas brewing in my head...lol! ...I wonder if I tried a different brand if the colors would be different...Hmmm, must try. I've seen some lighter shades made by different companies...
Thanks for your kind comments!

Thank you for posting such wonderful art!
I never knew you could make colours lighter by going over them later with just water. Does that work for watercolour as well? I'm only starting to use watercolour.
I can't wait to see more of this style of art. The monochrome nature makes it look like a brass sculpture type art.

My pleasure!
Not sure if that works with watercolors so much, never really tried it. Could work I suppose so long as you have enough paint on the paper to start with. You need to be careful you use a nice heavy weight watercolor paper so it doesn't get ruined when you try to remove the paint later, and so it doesn't ripple when lots of water is applied. There are quite a few good tutorials here on DA, you could check them out. I'm pretty much self taught so even I don't know all the techniques. Try things out on a scrap piece of paper before you commit to doing them on your good copy.
I'll likely be trying another of these next week.

Thanks very much for the tips!
I know I've read a few tips and tricks but tutorials (with visuals) may be even better.
Thanks again!
Looking forward to see more of your masterpieces!

It's amazing! Did you just dilute it when you wanted
lighter shades?

Thanks! Yes, the more dry coffee you add, the darker the shade. The more water, the lighter.

Thank you kindly. It was fun to experiment with this. ...although I must say, I was intimidated at first and procrastinated for a couple of hours before I actually started to paint...
