Personality: Oregano is an introvert and an aspiring cook. They can be quite skittish sometimes, especially around new individuals. They have lived on their own for most of their life, watching their family disappear beyond the village gate and never return Oregano's personal philosophy revolves around the belief of remaining uninvolved in the affairs of others because it is simply none of their business. Their family philosophy is quite the opposite, focused on honor and protecting others. Oregano finds a balance between the two. They tend to avoid some social interactions, preferring to cook for people rather than talk to them. They are gentle in nature, modest, and often keeps to themselves. Oregano avoids social interaction because of their lack of knowledge in regards to proper social protocol. They cannot pick up on certain cues or nonverbal assertions. They had very few social interactions as a child. They tend to let emotions flow through themselves and not bottle anything in, but they were not exempt from the occasional wise-crack. They just desire a clean slate. That is what they have. Isolated, yes, but a clear conscience nonetheless. Oregano does wear a smile for the customers they cook for.
When talking to new individuals, they can be somewhat inquisitive, if the individual peaks their interest. They have the tendency to alternate back and forth between Italian and English.
Their greatest fear is loss. When Oregano was younger, they lost their sister to a hostile. The two had ventured out far past the town's borders, and Oregano's sister paid for it with her life. Ten years later, Oregano still lives with the scars of that experience. Every year on the anniversary of her death, Oregano cooks tagliatelle pasta.
Oregano is sworn to honesty. Their family has a tradition of chivalry, valor, and speaking from the heart.
Though they are anti-social, they are making efforts to remedy and break this behavior.
Specific Traits: Introverted, Altruistic, Candid, Diligent, Chivalrous, Reminiscent
Introverted
Oregano is an introverted individual. Usually, they avoid extensive conversations with unknown people. Given that everyone they have come close to has died, Oregano has come to lament on past relationships. They do not want to be hurt anymore, so they seldom form deep, emotional relationships. While Oregano is not a very outspoken individual, they are a very good listener and are open to just listening to another's rantings or tales from beyond the village gate. Even then... They are always on guard for something.
Altruistic
With the exception of exploration, Oregano does not concern themselves with the matters of others. However, during explorations, Oregano will be the first one to protect their allies. When off the battlefield, Oregano donates some spare food and cumulus earnings from their bakery to charity. While Oregano may be fortunate with their lot on life between a roof over their head and food on the table, they realize that others are not as fortunate. Thus, they feel an obligation to help when they can.
Candid
One of Oregano's family traditions is to be sworn to honesty. To Oregano, lying is a disgrace. Thus, the lofty Chiot calls it as they see it. They are very honest and straightforward when the situation calls for it. At other times, they abstain from responding. They cannot lie if they do not answer. Nonetheless, Oregano is extremely honest, especially when giving compliments or due credit to other individuals. Their honesty is one of Oregano's defining traits.
Diligent
Oregano runs their bakery with meticulous tenacity. From the early morning after a sunrise jog to the later hours of nightlife, Oregano is rarely away from the brick oven they have become accustomed to. This methodical behavior contributes to the earthy Chiot having very few friends and companions with whom they can spend time. Oregano prefers to cook for others since their artistic expertise is manifested in culinary practice.
Chivalrous
Courting others with great respect and formality, Oregano was brought up to be courteous and respectful. They always address someone they do not know very well as Signor, Signora or Signorina. Even then, Oregano is a well-spoken Chiot. They are always willing to offer a helping hand to those who require it. Oregano is also keen on giving compliments, and sometimes even taking a bow. They are very much a gentleman in every sense of the word, from holding the door open for a woman to risking their life so another can live.
Reminiscent
Oregano often reminisces on a past life. Oregano is possibly the last DePasquale Chiot left, as all of their other relatives have returned to Deia. Oregano only has memories and antique heirlooms in their possession. They stare at them and cry sometimes; Oregano's unavailing cries cannot bring back the days of their youth. They roam through despair while longing for days outside of desolate misery.
History:
Oregano, like others of the Chiot race, was born in Mana Village. The lofty Chiot was born to a family descended from a long line of halberd-wielding explorers: the DePasquale Family. The DePasquale name translates roughly to “Of Easter." The family was renowned for their consummate dexterity in halberd-and-shield combat. Their proficiency saved the lives of numerous Explorers throughout the years that Chiot have explored the surface of Skaia. They are willing to die so others can live, however they refuse to die needlessly. Lives are irreplaceable, and the DePasquale clan respects that grim reality.
However, they ended up executing their sacred duty all too well.
Gradually, over the years, the Chiot of the DePasquale clan disappeared. Their numbers diminished at an alarming rate. An innumerable and unprecedented amount of DePasquale met their demise in a short span of time. Between Mana Ridge and Angura Forest, these Italian-tongued Chiot never again explored the wild or defended their friends. The tricolor cloaks they bore never again flourished in the wind. Their glistening halberds never again invoked conviction and hope with every clove. Their shields lay sundered on the icy ground. With no heirs, the DePasquale name would reach its penultimate conclusion before the last of them finally dies.
Seemingly miraculous, two Chiot were born to carry the DePasquale name. Oregano DePasquale was the firstborn to Prosciutto and Sfogliatelle DePasquale. Oregano was the light of their eyes. Prosciutto was a profound Explorer, wielding the family halberd: Reminiscenza. Sfogliatelle bore the blossoming shield: Petaldancer. One day, Oregano would come to bear these heirlooms as well. Three years later, Oregano became a big brother to a beautiful wine-hued little girl with blonde highlights named Tagliatelle. For a brief moment, everything was fantastic. Prosciutto and Sfogliatelle talked about retiring so they could raise their two children. However, that dream would never come to fruition. When Oregano was four, their parents went on an expedition. It was supposed to be their last one before retirement. However, they never returned. Their bodies were returned by the survivors a few weeks later. Reminiscenza and Petaldancer were passed to Oregano. The four-year-old grasped early on the price of living in this world. Oregano's uncle, Zabaglione, took in the two Chiot children. Zabaglione was Sfogliatelle's brother.
That experience did not quell their adventurous disposition.
Zabaglione was more of a brother to Oregano and Tagliatelle than a father. He was a Relic Hunter instead of an Explorer, but only so he can explore the Ruins of Mysteria. He treated them like his own siblings. Not too cross, but not too care-free. But that would not last. When Oregano was ten and Tagliatelle was seven, they ventured past the village gate for a miniature exploration of their own. The two children were originally with their uncle by the lake, but the two children slipped away from supervision. Their young ambition and naivety would prove to be lethal. In the darkness of Mana Forest, the two children, in their exuberant joie-de-vivre, encountered a ferocious beast, at least to the children: a sersin. Its razor fangs of sharpened bones would be the end of Tagliatelle. The scents and horrifying screams would induce nightmares upon Oregano, even as other hostiles began to encircle them. Oregano sprinted as fast as their weak legs could carry them at the sound of her helpless screams, which sent reverberating chills through the dead of night. Oregano never forgave themselves for their actions that evening. They never saw their sister die. She bade them to run. Due to their carelessness and being taken by fear, Oregano failed to protect their sister from harm. They never even visited Tagliatelle’s grave. Now, Oregano suffers from post-traumatic stress, insomnia, and nightmares.
Oregano's last remaining cousins found a broken child living on the streets after Zabaglione's death. This child had lost everything. When Oregano was sixteen, they opened a bakery on their own: Sapore di Casa. Taste of Home. They worked hard to raise the cumulus to afford their own place. It wasn't long after that Oregano's last remaining cousins, Castelmagno and Salsiccia, died during the doomed expedition into Angura Forest. At the funeral, Oregano was given the last remaining DePasquale heirloom: the infamous Tricolor Cloak. They wear this shroud with pride.
Now the last of their family, Oregano retreated to their bakery, preferring to bake for people rather than form a meaningful relationship with anyone. They cannot bear the pain of loss any longer. One day, Oregano may have the courage to wield Reminiscenza and Petaldancer on their own exploration.

Among the Italian Chiot, it is traditional to hyphenate the last name. The extended family took the DePasquale name in order to further assimilate themselves into their family. To the Italian Chiot, nothing is more important than family. When I said that Oregano is the last of the DePasquale name, that includes all extended family.
Other Facts:
- Oregano is bilingual, speaking English and Italian fluently.
