As much as 96 seems really old, it's only around 8 years. I'd say they should head into the elder's den about 120 moons, that's when they're about 10 years old.

then Mousefur must've retired really early since she was still pretty young at the beginning of the "The Prophecies Begin" arc and became an elder just near the middle of the "The New Prophecies" arc and finally dies at the end of "Omen of the Stars"
Also, in "The Last Hope" Firestar thought something about Spiderleg going to the elders den soon despite him only being 6.5 yrs old
so either cats become half useless when they're just a little old, the writers make them become half useless, or I'm just bad at arguing XD

I have no idea oof, but it'd be weird to think a cat that isn't even 7 yet is considered to be ready to be an elder. Then again, they are feral, so life expectancy is shorter. But it's funny thinking that way, as my cat is 7 and she's still healthy and mostly active

Cats/animals in general in the wild don't live nearly as long as cats/animals who are owned by people so in a way it makes sense that they get older sooner in the series.

According to my vet the life expectancy of a feral cat is 2-4 years depending on location and threats.Β A cat in a city where there aren't many predators actually has a longer expectancy than one in the countryside with foxes, coyotes, owls, and raptor birds... assuming it learns when/how to cross a street without getting hit.
So making it to 8 years old as a feral cat?Β Actually pretty damn impressive.Β (though if you take out the mortality of kittens who starve/freeze/overheat/dehydrate/etc the average does rise to 5-7 years, but that still makes 8 years impressive).

Waitttttttttt Wasn't Cloudpelt Cloud*paw* when Rainstone joined and Nightpelt a warrior? Shouldn't he be older?

They were both brand new warriors, and Rainstone was older than an apprentice. She was just a runt cause she didn't have much food access.Β

I don't recall Cloudpelt being a 'paw at the time, but Ivyleaf was being kept an apprentice by Mudstripe.. until she and Rainstone saved Jaytail from a fox, that is.Β
I could be mistaken however, and if you're correct, the explanation could be that he was kept an apprentice as well, for the sake of the prophecy?Β

This might just be me, but when making people into warriors/warriors into people, I like to think that one moon = one year.
Off topic, I know, but it just popped into my head and I wanted to say it :')
I love this

Personally, I see one moon as one month (if we're talking about in general),
but if we're turning the cats into humans, then yes, I see where you're coming from,

Haha,Β
Does that mean they'd go into battle at 12 years old?Β
Y'know ive never thought about this till now, but i think i like the idea of 1 moon being the equivalent of 2 years if they were people.
A 12 moon old cat would be a young adult cat, which would be 24 years and training wouldn't start till the beginning of a cats teenage years (12)
Just sharing my own idea/opinion ^^

Youβre very close! Scientifically, itβs actually:
6 moons: 9/10
12 moons: 15/16
18 moons: 20/21
And from then on, every cat year would equal four human years. Even knowing this, I also imagine their ages as you do, 6 moons old = 12 and 12 moons old = 21!

It's also good to keep in mind that in ancient societies it wasn't exactly uncommon for boys to begin training as warriors as young as 8 or 9 years old.Β They'd certainly be learning farming/hunting/other crafts at that age as well.Β True, they generally didn't see combat until they were 14-16, but they trained.

She probably used the same lineart in general for them, as drawing every single one of them would've taken an unreasonable amount of time for this
