Description
TAKE THE CLASS HERE FOR ONLY $19Have you ever been curious how I design creatures, this is a comprehensive class going over just that. You will learn a lot of my tricks and steps to help deliver professional quality creature designs.
General Class Info:
- The class is divided up into 5 video lessons that you can watch whenever you have the time, no rush!
- Each video lesson has a few written steps accompanying it, these steps work together with the video to help deliver a strong learning experience.
- You may start a student project and show your work to the other students also participating. Students are encouraged to help each other out.
- You don't absolutely need Photoshop(or a comparable program), but it is recommended to get the full value. Many of the lessons taught can be applied to all mediums, but I do go over several steps that work only in digital media.
- You actually learn, here is just the result of one student's work from the class.

I am super excited about this.
I personally am going to join this class for sure. While I don't really draw as much any more, I believe that this will be valuable for my sculpting as I love creating new and original characters.
Thanks you for posting this!!

I would love to take this class. But I think my programs are lacking as well as my skill. That and the money issue

I took your course recently, and found it to be very frustrating for a novice like myself. My concept sketches are hardly anything that compare to yours or any of the favorite class works. You don't explain how to do lineart from a sketch or how to color using a computer paint tool. It seemed to skip from sketch to reference and then right into the finished work pretty much. I was very confused and frustrated with all of it. What's more, the website has no way for me to post and get help from other students as they say they do. What other resources would you recommend to the novice to supplement your class?

The class is for intermediate skill level users as stated on the page. Intermediate means that you should have have a decent grasp of how to use your medium of choice, in this case, photoshop. The site does in fact have a way to get help from fellow students, you just need to start your project page and post there to seek help. I dont want to sound rude, but maybe you just werent ready for an intermediate level course. Perhaps you should seek out introductory classes first

Well to be fair, the class is listed as an intermediate level class on creature design rather than teaching you how to draw different animals.
However, I'm also taking the class (I haven't posted my sketches yet though, I only have two rough designs so far) so I might be able to help you out with the issues you're having with lineart and coloring. What program are you using?

I have Sai and MyPaint. I can't afford Photoshop. And I consider myself intermediate in other aspects of art, to include real life painting and sculpture. I found this class to be helpful in general, but I simply found it to be lacking. If it was a bit more in-depth, that would be better.

You could get GIMP. Free program similar to Photoshop.

Well I happen to be using Sai, so if you have any questions on how to line/color then I can help you out. It'd probably be best to note me though so we don't accidentally spam arvalis's inbox.

Wow, I can't believe I just came across this in the related images box by accident, and right before the end of the discount date o-o
At first I was a little skeptic as to if this class would be good for me at my skill level (I'm one of those people who ALWAYS feels like an amateur, regardless of how much I improve). But as I was reading through the comments I got to feel a lot more confident about it, and I do enjoy getting tips and lessons from wherever I can get them.
I'm more of a hobbyist when it comes to art. I draw when I have the time and ideas pop into my head. I'd love to make a little bit of change on the side off of my art one day, but that'll be a long time coming if ever.
Wow I ramble a lot. Anyways, I think I may be getting this tonight. A thought though, is this class more suitable for those aiming for photo-realistic images, or will it also be helpful in advancing and adding more detail to the style of drawings that I tend to gravitate more towards to?

arvalis In reply to SachiKanashimi [2014-03-27 17:38:42 +0000 UTC]
It doesnt specifically focus on photorealism, it more focuses on detailing and designing a creature to look believable. Things can verge on the cartoony side but still appear believable, a good example being monster hunter designs. I hope you enjoy the class

Not Arvalis, just a student who's really enjoying this class, but this is my two cents!
I like to draw a little cartoony too, and I feel like the way to make your drawings really look professional is to "know the rules before you break them", so in this case, know what the anatomy and details /should/ look like, and then transfer that to a cartoony style. Studying anatomy of real animals really makes you understand /why/ you put that bump there, and why that front leg curves just so, etc. I no longer feel like I'm blindly drawing lines that look okay to me but might not make any sense in reality.
Hope you have as much fun as I am!!

SachiKanashimi In reply to WarmSummerSun [2014-03-27 18:50:43 +0000 UTC]
Yea, that makes a lot of sense I remember back in Highschool I did something similar where I tried to draw a semi photo-realistic dog from a black and white image and then afterwords I broke the realistic Dog down into more basic shapes that made up its form and sort of reverse-engineered it into a cartoony dog.

This sounds really cool. I'm tempted to ask a couple questions first though. Could you be more specific as to what the class covers? Such as anatomy or even painting techniques (since you say Photoshop will help enhance our experience)? Sorry if this question has already been asked. I looked over the first 4 or so pages of comments and didn't see it.
