Description
GIGANTIC FILE! Download for best quality!Soooo, I promised this to way too many people to just leave it hanging there O:
A complete tutorial on the basics of canines. Neato, huh?
Especially dedicated to who asked me <3
So, this tutorial explains roughly what is to know when drawing a wolf. Also, I added a section on how to "characterize" your wolf in order to turn it into a character. Aaand yep. Cheetah is silly.
Also, did you guess which character is which in the minigame?
I really hope you enjoy this^^

Thanks for the tutorial! You see, I'm completely changing my style on my Icarus and the HellHounds comic. I recently got (real) lessons on how to color using color pencils. So I thought I should alter both color and anatomy! I imeadently came to your tutorials XD so thanks again for the anatomy lesson, it has helped a lot! ^^

This is a great tutorial, but I can never find any that actually HELP me because I do not use circles and that stuff for my animals.
Okay, a wolf.
I draw a type of triangle, what I mean by "type" is that I change how straight the triangle is, like if the wolf's ears were flat on it's head, or perked up in a kind of way. This is how I start all my drawings. It helps me know where and how the character will be placed, and often it comes out right, but sometimes once I get the muzzle and eyes done, I have to erase is because it's not in the right place. I then draw the forehead, then the top of the muzzle, then I curve the line twice to bring out the "cat look" at the nose... are you following me?... then I make the smile or frown or whatever it is, then I make the chin, then the neck, do the eyes and hair, and so on.
But I don't do the circle stuff. It confuses me and makes my wolf's anatomy look pretty jacked up in the ending :I So it's hard to find tutorials that actually HELP me out, y'know? Not to offend you! All the tutorials are exactly the same as this <.> They just don't help me out enough as people who use circles to draw. And I've been drawing like this since 7 or even 6, so it's hard to work out a different way to draw.... yep, as the dog says, "Sigh!" :C

ARVEN92 In reply to AngelWolves1 [2013-05-19 21:08:46 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I see what you mean.
Unfortunately though, most people, including myself, find the circle a lot easier and more immediate than the way you described, that's why all the tutorials feature it, because, being it easier, it IS meant to help other artists.
I know it's hard to change your habits from so long ago, but if you find it so difficult to draw a wolf with your current method, perhaps it's best to find a different way And this way doesn't forcibly have to be the circle. You can emulate the wolf's face with a thousand other shapes -a cube with a cylinder for a muzzle, for example.

....... I love the way I draw...... it's quite easy, I just can't find any tutorials that don't use circles and stuff.... I don't think you got my point XD

ARVEN92 In reply to AngelWolves1 [2013-05-19 21:20:13 +0000 UTC]
Well if you find it easy to draw, then why look for drawing tutorials?
In that case I think you might want to work on other things, like perspective and anatomy

AngelWolves1 In reply to ARVEN92 [2013-05-19 21:23:12 +0000 UTC]
Because I'm not too sure HOW people draw... like professionals who don't use circles... that doesn't make any sense, does it?? XD
Yeah. I think my anatomy for my animals works fine with my style, but I need to clean up some things, like making the back legs work out XD Perspective? I'm pretty good on that, too But I think I still have some training to do XD
Anyways, thank you even though you didn't have the answers XD (Not to be rude, of course! )

ARVEN92 In reply to AngelWolves1 [2013-05-19 21:26:46 +0000 UTC]
Well I'm not sure either, but it depends on what you want to draw Take Disney animators for example, and in most cases they will use circles for their heads, because they're very versatile and because the style they chose is cartoonish. But on the other hand, professionals who draw realism use more complex shapes to respect proportions better
Hey no probs, I'm always happy to help XD

Well okay XD I mentioned Disney to demonstrate that even professionals work with circles Just think of Mickey Mouse, or Baloo from the Jungle book
He's all circles XD
