Soooo, I promised this to way too many people to just leave it hanging there O:

A complete tutorial on the basics of canines. Neato, huh?

Especially dedicated to who asked me <3

So, this tutorial explains roughly what is to know when drawing a wolf. Also, I added a section on how to "characterize" your wolf in order to turn it into a character. Aaand yep. Cheetah is silly.

Also, did you guess which character is which in the minigame? Feel free to leave a comment below and check the answers!

I really hope you enjoy this^^

Lovely tutorial, and thanks for submitting it to #SeriousArtists !

The only beef I have with this is that it doesn't show the wrist bone or the proportions of the bones very well, nor does it suggest to study wolf skeletons, which would be a great exercise to avoid such mistakes. You did point out the elbow-to-knee line, which is good, but if you look at a wolf's skeleton, or any quadrupedal animal's skeleton for that matter, you'll find that the upper and lower arm bone (of the front leg) are always almost equally long. There may be some variety, but in some of the examples you drew the lower leg bone seems almost twice as long as the upper leg one, which would never occur.

Aww thank you so much! <3 And no problem at all, it's my pleasure!

Sorry for the late reply, I was on holiday XD

Oh, and thank you a lot for your suggestions and tips, especially the ones about the front leg bones, I'll definitely have to study them harder, as I do draw the humerus way too short

Once again, thank you so much for your lovely critique!

I would make a fail tutorial out of that XD

Still, I'll learn the tricks and I'll make the tut once I'm more confident with anthros ^_^

That's exactly how it was in a horse camp I went to! There were five white horses, and the only way to tell them apart from a distance was by how they were built. Universe was skinny, Sacred Drummer was fat with a sway back, Pilgrim was built like a draft horse but short, Fire had a thick neck, and Zorro had a big head and thick legs. Up close, they all had different markings on their muzzles where there's no fur, but from far away they all looked pretty much the same.

ARVEN92 In reply to ookaookaooka [2012-08-19 22:54:37 +0000 UTC]

That's very cool!

And you're right, it works the same with horses too I'm not very good at telling horses apart XD But I know this method works on any animal Even if they belong to the same species, even to the same breed, they will never be exactly the same

I experienced this with my cats I have three young cat sibilngs, two of which are black in colour with same eye colour too. One is a boy, and the other's a girl, and despite being the same colour AND the same brood (which makes them particularly similar) I can still tell them apart thanks to their physical differences

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARVEN92 In reply to Cpat [2012-08-19 22:58:39 +0000 UTC]
