They really are. Cole is too, but his personality hasn't been explored as much, and it's not as if they can explore it NOW. 
And don't even get me started on Jay, ha. He was so lighthearted and stuff-but it kinda seems like he's stuffing his negative feelings in a little, sometimes. I mean, yeah, he definitely shows them, he screams, he complains, he's tackled Cole when he felt betrayed, but he seems like he'd try to stay lighthearted and stuff negative emotion inside at least a little. (If that's what he's doing, then I feel him here.) And about the turmoil, yeah. And yeah. Especially with what happened in episode 34. ;^; It's obvious that Kai and Jay were both extremely upset. Jay looked at a picture and asked, "Ninja never quit, huh, Zane?" (Oh gosh, SO MANY FEELS when he said that) and Kai said it should have been him. That's horrible, and it's so obvious that he was hurt about it-maybe a little bit too much so for the younger watchers. UGH, I'M GOING TO CRY TOO. DX But for some reason I like talking about this. I have a more contemplative, darker side to me. Congrats, you got to see it without too much effort.
And wow, I typed soooo much. I got a little carried away. xD

The person who started the self-injury actually admitted it at one point, and said she knew what she'd done wrong. It was brave of her.
Oh my gosh, that little glimpse of Zane in ep 35.
His faaaaaace. .....Someone proposed Chen's "Zane" is a replica of the real of who is actually still trapped in the Digiverse, and now that I think about it....it's PLAUSIBLE, if not much else. But I think it's the real Zane.

I feel like Cole is one of those more independent and solitary people, but he still knows how to bring a group of people together and lead them to do things. but I'll admit that's about it for his character. I like to think he takes on the responsibility of team leader very seriously and always takes his friends into careful consideration when on a mission.
Jay is like a grenade that could explode any moment. he is the kind of person who would hide his feelings unless he really couldn't take the stress. he practically lives off his emotions and strives to entertain people, but it's probably not helping his emotional state very much. D:

YES. I got so emotionally invested when I played PMD. like, "MY PARTNER NOOO"
and its just a beautiful game with beautiful music ;-; not to mention gameplay that's unique and killer storylines.
thank God. I didn't actually expect LEGO to kill off Zane, I mean, it's what you'd predict in any other show other than lego ninjas.

Well, and then after that, he kinda sorta turned into this goofball.
That is totally what I think Jay's like. I think he kinda annoys people with his jokes and light-heartedness on purpose, because they can only see the more light-hearted side to him and that's what he wants, because he doesn't want them to see that he's hiding all this and their pity and whatnot.
Yeah, it's totally not doing him any favors. D:

And somehow exposure in not low amounts can increase your chances of cancer.
Titanium Zane was a bit hard to get used to at first.
