Description
I was at another immigration rally on Sunday, and this guy was just standing there watching and I thought he has an interesting face.So I walked up to him and asked him if I could take a couple pictures.
The first shot, he gave me this cheesy smile and a double peace sign.
So I jokingly said to him, you don't have to smile its not a school photo.
He laughed and then gave me this amazing pose.
I laughed and gave him a thumbs up and carried on my way. I heard him yell back at me, "Enjoy every moment of your life!"
It was only when I got home and looked at the image on the computer that I noticed he had a safety pin through his nose.

You seem to make you subjects comfortable in front of the lense, to me, that is a gift.

The trick is to be totally comfortable as a photographer. Typically when people are interacting, if they feel the other person is comfortable where they are or with what they're doing, then they will be. If you act nervous or awkward or suspicious, they will not be as comfortable.
Sometimes though, you'll find that getting a shot of someone glaring angrily at the lens will be just as powerful a portrait.
