Description After the chapter, Aeris decides to join the Vindicators as a Cadet.

Perhaps, first, it should be explained why Aeris wouldn’t go home to Sedo and reclaim his rank as a Skirmisher; to put it frankly, he has never felt a bond with his homeland. While he was dedicated to his job, and did the best that he could as a Skirmisher, he had few bonds beyond a few coworkers, and even those were superficial at best. A childhood spent raised by a fickle mother left him wary of abandonment and unwilling to forge deeper bonds that could come back to hurt him. When the news of Serora reclaiming their slaves reached his ears, he had a realization that left him cold: there was no one in Sedo who would realize he was missing and report him as one of the captured.

Aristotle the Skirmisher was gone. Aeris the Pit Fighter was on his own.

During previous unsuccessful escape attempts, Aeris had heard of the vindicators in whispers and snatches of rumors. Not in any real detail, but enough to piece together that they were a group that Aodhians considered terrorists, responsible for the attack on the crucible, and most importantly, a massive thorn in Aodh’s side. Any enemy of the Aodhians is a friend of his, and more importantly, they offered the possibility of revenge; once freed, Aeris heads northeast, towards Onea, navigating mainly on rumors and those willing to speak with him until he finds Ike and the Kingfisher Inn. From there, a meeting is arranged with Shale’s group of the Vindicators, and Aeris presents himself as a Cadet candidate, citing his training and background as a Skirmisher.

He is accepted. The next chapter of his life begins.
