Hehe well i've only been using it for half a year so cut me some slack

Some tips from me, I wouldn't make any page wider then 800 and try to keep the length at 800 or less. I kick the frames per second from the default 12 to 30 regardless if I'm using animation or not.
Do as little as possible on the main timeline i.e. create separate movie clips for EVERYTHING if possible because editing your final creation will be much easier when you break down each action/event into different clips. It also makes placement in the scene much easier. To get placement just "perfect" drop the movie clip on the scene and then right click and choose "Edit in place".
If you need an image with a transparent background (which is often IME) then don't save it as a transparent gif, use PNG 24 instead because the quality will be much higher and once you get it into flash then double click on the file for the properties and have Flash change it over to a JPG file to save file size but still retain the transparency.
Reuse your symbols/movie clips/graphics/ anytime you can since you can have multiple versions of them in your movie but they only count once for download
