Spekle gulped sharply, watching as charmander seemed to glance at them from a distance. Just moments ago, locked into battle with Mur. The sight of his friend crashing to the floor still fresh in his mind as he’d dragged them over to the resting area to give them a drink. Mur had caused it. Riled up the poor guild member... brought this whole horrible situation upon themselves. And yet, Spekle still did not feel quite as safe anymore.

“M-Mur? Do you think... do you think that we could go outside and help with the park?” The smeargle asked, wringing his hands as he found himself barely able to look his friend in the eye.
”I guess, kid...” the zorua grumbled, taking another sip from the blue cup they’d been given. Blue cup. Blue cup. Oh such a pretty colour! It almost made everything feel better just by looking at it. And that was the yes! Well, it wasn’t a yes exactly... but it was a weird Mur yes that was just as good as a regular yes, probably. Either way, he didn’t care too much as he reached out his hands and scooped the zorua up off of the floor... To which, they promptly went limp in his arms until he put them down with a snappy. “I can walk.”
“R-right!” He grinned, rubbing the back of his head. He’d thought that maybe they’d be able to get out of that scary charmander’s line of sight faster if he’d carried them but oh well! No point in arguing! “Let’s go then! Not a moment to waste!”

Arriving in the park, it was clear that the half that had split to tend to it were doing an excellent job. People walking around with full bags of rubbish. Others busily cleaning graffiti. Others still working together to get a huge bush back into its rightful spot. But at the same time there were still areas that needed tending to. Good! He wasn’t going to be useless after all!

Taking a moment to really appreciate the fresh air filling his lungs, he made his way over to a little flowerbed that had yet to be helped with. Blue flowers, uprooted and scattered across the nearby grass. He needed to help them. He just needed to!

Mur watched as Spekle had sprinted off to a nearby patch of dirt. Walking around like this still didn’t feel right. Their mind at work, trying to identify any and all threats in the area as they tailed behind their companion. Their eye keen to pick up on blind spots from which an attacker could appear - an alleyway here, a rooftop there. Places upon places to stare at just in case. In fact... hopping up onto a nearby wall granted them a decent view of the place. Large and imposing unfamiliar ground and yet they needed to stay alert. They needed to keep the kid safe.

Looking up over his shoulder after returning a few of the flowers home, Spekle couldn’t help but feel slightly amused to see the way Mur was perched. Back claws out and arms firmly to their sides like wings. Old habits die hard, he supposed.
