“Oh, thank you, thank you! It’s simply perfect!” Fern squealed in a delighted flurry of excitement as she twirled around a few times, admiring the craftsmanship of the new garment. And it was only in that moment that it fully dawned on the adult what they had just helped to create. Eeko could only truly watch as the child slipped away - their words failing them at such a critical moment as they so desperately wanted to call her back… ask if she was ok… if she needed to talk. Fabric she herself had salvaged from an assortment of places while her many foraging expeditions - the goal of which to find a sustainable alternative food source from the natural flora but that was beside the point. It was regular fabric nonetheless, no matter how much she wanted with all her heart to believe otherwise. But where it lacked in magic, it made up for in at least making her feel a little bit better. Something surreally comforting about being able to look down and see that false phylactery in just the shade she remembered it always being. It wasn’t her perfect fix by any means but… It was a start.
