Yup, gotta be on meds for life cuz there's no cure for it, but my condition is actually pretty regulated now. I'm feeling pretty good these days despite occasional mood swings!
For me, it was constant hospitalisation, in and out, over the course of several years, because they didn't know exactly what was wrong with me. I've been misdiagnosed quite a few times. Then after my father passed away, I admitted myself because I couldn't rise out of this slump. The Sawai Man Singh Medical College in Jaipur is a very good hospital and they managed to get me under control, with the proper diagnosis and the proper medication. It was a bumpy ride though, I had to be on so many different kinds of pills, plus side effects like weight gain, but I finally found one that worked, and it doesn't make me gain weight.
My best friend's father actually suffers from psychosis, and though he doesn't have Bipolar, I had a minor case of psychosis and so we talk about that; I try to give her advice on what meds could help her dad. Everyone's different of course.
I used to be ashamed of it, but now I'm okay with it. It's just a part of life.

you're super strong, my dad never told me about his bipolarity, until I turned 14
and at that time I didn't know what a bipolar person whas, so, I didn't know how to
react, now I know that is nothing bad if that person have his medication and have everything
under control.

I think your father didn't tell you because he wanted to protect you. It's a hard thing living with this disease, and it often affects our loved ones. Either he was a tad ashamed to admit he was battling with something so serious, or he just didn't want you to worry. It's not always an easy thing to admit. ''Bipolar'' sounds like an ugly thing to have. The name alone conjures up many negative connotations. But you're absolutely right, it's not necessarily a bad thing, and as long as the person has enough responsibility to seek treatment, it's something that you can accept and live with.))
