Description 6/5/11
A boy rose from his bed, the cry of a far distant thing broke into his sleep, he couldn't figure it out or tell who it was. The boy's room was decorated in sport items, from trophies, to shoes. Although unknown to his family there laid comics and sci-fi magazines in a secret door that was behind his drawer, hidden from the eyes of people who looked in the room. His magazines questioned our universe, the beings who lived out there and how to survive the apocalypse.
A flash of light skirted past the ears of dogs and flung itself against the ground. The boy had leaped out of bed like a prancing fawn to the window, and in that instances he saw that light in a second. Quickly he grabbed a bag out of his closet that held some books then he pulled out one that explained lights and what could be in them. Nothing helped him figure it out and he knew time was running out. He placed his vintage soviet helmet on with goggles too, grabbed a squirt gun, and stopped. A shine caught his eye, it came from his grandfather's necklace. It was given to him by his mother who was now living somewhere else, while his father traveled. It was a medium sized pendent of a tiger's head growling and had engraved on it his name which was his grandfather's name too, Charles. For fear he might lose himself to fear he took it, but looked back at the window. Darkness encompassed it. He turned to leave and the door quietly shut. In the distance a glow of mint colored light began to walk.
Charles gait was slow but sneaky at first then he reached the bridge that marked the end of the city and the start of the forest, he rushed out like a mad man. His intent was to finally discover something not known to us. Shattered against the leaves were crystals of what once was. The beast crawled to the beat of a distant music festival, feeling the energy of feet and hands dancing, but he could not share in the joy. He was icy in color, the body's muscles and veins could be seen, and a big bruise lay across his torso. Charles did not see him yet, but his determination kept his mind running wild with ideas and stories to tell to others, or the speeches he was going to make in the next ten years. The beast made it to the edge of the forest, and the shock kept his body from moving, but his mind forced him to remember why he was there.
Charles huffed and puffed as the air escaped him when he saw the icy Being lying on the forest ground. A glow occurred as he neared the beast's back, Charles didn't want to face him. A growl crept up to the beast's lips, but he slowly spoke English, "do not crawl like I have to this edge, come and stand in front." His glow became persistent in its distress, the boy not wanting to cause anymore of that, and stood where the beast told him to. Charles looked at the beast's face, his eyes were maroon, and the eye lids were a deep red, full of wrinkles like a dragon, everything else was icy white. "Do you seek to kill me?"
"No, in fact I don't know what to do."
"Yes you do, from the moment you saw my light your intent was to share me with the world and make something of your pathetic self."
"Well if you say it like that, no, but yes. Although now that I see you, it's kind of hard to imagine doing that to a -"
"A weak beast, I know, I've killed millions and thought that once." He clutched the dirt as the pain ushered into him. The boy kicked the dirt in uncertainty. "Can I ask what you are?" The privy eyes of the beast danced at the idea of telling him. "No but what I can tell you is to go into the future with steady hands, and an unsettled mind because the world is all you know and the minds of others can persuade you away from what is and what isn't." the boy's mouth squirmed. "Can I ask what that means?" He looked up with hopeful eyes. The beast laughed, sometimes when you get philosophical it's best to say you'll figure it out but the beast knew Charles wouldn't. "My name is Avan, and I have but one goal in life and that is to find the prince of my planet." The boy couldn't believe what he heard. "Now could I get to a place to shelter me from the rain?" The beast's breath was slowing and it wasn't raining, the boy looked perplexed. Many questions raced toward him but he couldn't keep from saying "We have a basement, but it's not far so let's go." It was 3 am and the people of Charles's city were sleeping. A big lumbering animal could not take away a partygoer or a sleeping person's activity for even a second. The sidewalk would crack under his weight but in the morning only an old guy would question why his favorite flower was crushed and the ground cracked.
They reached the basement, and Charles took his goggles off. "Here I don't need them, their too big." Avan chuckled "They wouldn't even fit mine, take them, and go to sleep in your room." Charles looked hurt and when he turned to shut the door he said "Good night, beast. We'll find the prince in the morning." And Avan replied "Good Night little boy, and I will not find him for many years to come, so rest." And Avan dozed off with his head on his legs and smiled. Out in the world unknown to Avan it rained and kept the dogs from hearing him slumber.  While Charles made a slow crawl to his bed, school was tomorrow and not much could be said for his attention span that day, not that it mattered, a beast awaited him at home.
