The Nobodies video comparison has been coming up a lot, so I'd like to clear that out - yes, the drawing is inspired by it. It's one of my favorite videos.
As for the movie Pan's Labyrinth - I totally love it and although I wasn't inspired by it exactly, I can take comparisons only as a compliment

Well, the first version of this included not kids, but dolls sitting at the table. Then I figured out that the king eating a doll's head's insides didn't make much sense and children would've fit better. Or something like that. Maybe they're real children, the king eats their brains and sews them back together to be his little dolls. It's open for interpretation
