Description
Closeup of the central mechanism which opens and closes the petals of the sculpture. A high-torque brass-geared servo rotates the central plate, opening all six petal on their hinges. All parts were custom designed, cut, and assembled. This central mechanism went through about eight design iterations before arriving at what you see here. We were VERY happy that this worked first try, without needing a second prototype. The only post assembling revision we added was the hexagonal mechanical stop to keep tension off the servo when the flower is closed.
