Description
Groot drawing step by stepThe first drawing is a normal line sketch ( used graphite pencil 2B )
The second is a layer with markers just to fill up all the white with color. At this point the colors don't even need to mach the thing you are drawing it will get covered anyway.
Third - ( i should maybe have a step before this one to show ) but the thing i did is : i used color based color pencils and colored in the whole drawing - after that i used a water brush ( brush filled with water ) to blend in / smoothen out the colors .
Forth - here i started layering colors , adding a lot of blacks and working on the contrast .
Fifth - Here i did a pass with white tattoo color ( its the same as liquid acrylic ) just to highlight everything and to make it pop
The last phase i did one last hard layer where i added the right tone to the drawing - so a lot of light browns
Also i cant stress this enough - but use natural light while taking a pic of your finished drawing. You can see how crisp the colors look on the last one compared to the other five - that's thanks to the natural light.
I used only water based color pencils from Derwent to do this drawing.
Hope this helps
Also i got a whole album on facebook dedicated to work in progress drawings like this one - with more tips , go and check it out if you are interested .

Oh. my. god. Groot!
This looks stunning! I'm going to do my best to try this myself Thanks for the steps!
But a few questions if you don't mind:
1. So when you say in the 2nd step that the colors don't need to match, would I just do random colors? Or try to match the pic?
2. What colors would you recommend for the water based color pencils?
3. Type of water color brush?
Thank you

Hi dude! Great as always!
I always wanted to ask you if you could share with us any dvd or website to learn how to draw with colors as you do...Thank you in advance. I have always been thinking pencil colors were not a great medium for drawing. But since I saw your drawings, I changed my mind

I'm so jealous that you can just be like "I think I am going to draw this." Then have it come out a masterpiece like *that*.

Very interesting. I didn't know that we could superpose so many layers of colors without getting an awful mess at the end, haha
