Description
Couple of my fave characters; Major Doctor Ghastly and Hoss Delgado matching wits...this could take a while folks...
Drawn for my own amusement, these last few days have been pretty rough on me.
Major Doctor Ghastly is from Evil Con Carne (a tragically cut short Maxwell Atoms cartoon)
Hoss Delgado is from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (like I had to tell you that!)
And what do you know! It's a wallpaper sized image

It's either gonna collapse into itself or we're going to get x-tra bland 70s style Hanna-Barbara (complete with laugh track) again. The joys of cartoon by committee...

Oh please no...no more "laugh track" cartoons.
Cartoon by committee, that is an interesting way to put it. It reminds me of a blog post I read recently where an industry professional (I forget who at the moment) was ranting about the state of the animation industry. He mentioned that while the basic backbone of the story he'd written for a cartoon remained intact, the final cartoon had been so warped and twisted during production and editing meetings that he now has trouble seeing his mark on the episode. Things like that make me hesitant even try to get any backing for my original ideas.

Yep, if you want to read some good rants check out JohnK's blog and/or Cartoon Brew (the former more for the "crotchety old man" ranting the latter for the more contemporary "WTF are they thinking" ranting).
It's killing me watching newer cartoons that have their creative juices squeezed out until there's only an empty husk left over. When I think of all the awesome stuff that was on TV just 10 years ago... the mind boggles how we got to this state again (seriously it's like 1990 all over again)

Haven't had much time for reading blogs lately, but wanted to reply to the second part of your post:
I will admit that truly bothers me, but not near as much as what the idea of "being popular" has done to many cartoons. It seems that lately a lot of the more clever cartoons, the ones that are actually worth watching, are the ones never being given a chance. I actually shudder to think what would happen to a quality cartoon (read: "one that doesn't talk down to its viewers") if it were to air now. To me, it seems the only ones being given a chance are those which are either super-flashy or completely stupid...or both! Things like this are why networks like Boomerang or HUB can pick up old shows, or why stuff like Nick's "90's are All That" has been so successful--the people want to watch something with substance.
Why the people who run the cartoon companies can't seem to grasp that is a concept beyond me at this point...

It's all profit motive, but it's corporate group-think mostly acting out of fear that ensures nothing of value gets made. They'll pick something safe and marketable or better yet already has a demographic, then pump out enough episodes to hit the magic number for syndication (~100 episodes).
Creator driven content is still sort of around but significantly diminished. Nowhere near what it was a decade ago. I mean, if the people running the projects are invested in the characters or stories you end up with much better entertainment because the people making it actually care.
I haven't seen anything really good for a while, so many cartoons these days focus on dialog rather than actually telling a story through visual narrative, which is so backward it hurts my teeth to think about. Gags seem to be put in at random with no pacing or direction. And even when you boil down the individual stories nothing is really happening, the characters don't really grow or change and yet they are so completely inflexible that you can use them for anything outside of the bland serial they inhabit.
At this point I'm desperate for something good, but it will probably take a few years of crap before some talented people out there make a stand and remind producers that the tail shouldn't wag the dog.

They're cute. Never seen the cartoons though. I take it he's a monster hunter?
The male red head ...I have a Jedi that's similar to him and I keep changing the Jedi because he looks similar to other things. Red heads are supposed to be rare.

Sounds like ghost busters.
The character is called Jacob Startrail and he's on the far right side of my squadron J lineup; the only line up I've made with my height chart.

Hoss Delgado was one of my favorite characters from Billy and Mandy--he was just really awesome--and funny.
Evil Con Carne was actually a pretty funny show--although I'm still a bit surprised on how they managed to sneak that one through at hours that kids could see it.

Someone's matching wits... with real matches!
I like Ghastly's expression, and I've always approved of her outfit. The world needs more female evil scientists!

I think it has to be said that they're "matching wit." Because one of them is about a full wit short.
Great job.
