Description Just a quick Muro drawing but there's no better way to explain how I feel about CAPCOM at the moment, it's like they hate Mega Man.

Mega Man Universe was cancelled, not really surprised about that one.

Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled, citing "not enough interest", this hit hard given how much interaction there was and how close to a playable demo we got. This would have been the primary reason for me to get a 3DS. The odd bit is how many people were waiting for this one to come out, it was the Number 1 trending topic on Twitter in Japan a couple days ago, at the very least that should say something, but no "not enough interest". I don't know who's calling the shots at CAPCOM but all I'm saying is that they're hanging out at the intersection of Head and Ass.

No Mega Man or X in Ultimate MvC3, even though X was at the top of the CAPCOM-Unity polls they still said there "wasn't enough interest" and actually picked the 2nd and 3rd choices on the same damn polls, unbelievable.

CAPCOM sure doesn't seem to know when it has a good thing going, I thought for sure in 2009 that they had figured it out, DLC games and addons and a steady stream of interesting stuff, they had actual momentum, there was anticipation; what's CAPCOM going to release next? Now it's as if they've taken a step back 10 years. I mean, what's the point of buying Ultimate MvC3? To get a few extra characters? To see how they re-gimp the balance? New modes? All this stuff could have/should have been DLC but nope, they're stuck in the 90s still and these minor changes merit a whole new disc release. Yeah, no thanks.

I'm not even going to talk about the atrocious reboots of Bionic Commando or the degradation of the Resident Evil series from tense survival horror to boring/clunky FPS...

Anyway, enough ranting for me.

Before the MML3 cancelation I might have bought it. But even w/o that hearing about that would make me not want to buy the game. Why would anyone do that?! What if you're lending it to a friend or you want to start over? This is so stupid!

Exactly, CAPCOM is extremely out of touch with reality.

It's like CAPCOM only ever talks about money and what will sell well. Even if it's remakes of games that aren't even that old! I don't mind Street Figher or Resident Evil or any of the crossover. It's just...Maybe once in a while run one progject where you're doing something a bit more niche like an Ace Attorney game or, oh, I don't know, A MEGAMAN GAME?!

The thing that is lost on CAPCOM is that unless they have a more diverse library they will end up becoming dependent on games or genres which will from favor (cough SNK cough), personally I see in a lot of their current decision making the beginnings of a death spiral, I'm willing to bet they've been in a panic now for a few days with the backlash.

They tried to ignore it at first, then they made some PR blunders (stating things like "not enough interest") now they're feeling the sweet burn.

I really do hope this experience is a wakeup call for them.

About Bionic Commando, dunno, I like it the Next Gen, although I still prefer Rearmed, hasnt played Rearmed 2 though, and Resident Evil, well, lets see what they do with that game
But you know, its sad that Capcom its doing this, even though i havent played the Megaman games (except for the battles where you can choose him with Proto and Bass), I consider Megaman such an iconic character at the same level like Mario, Sonic and Crash, and, its not right that Capcom its doing this to his mascot, besides that, another thing that really dont like, its the fact that they sell games incompletes and then release DLC.... and of course, revisions, you know, Capcom its going to have serious issues if they still doing these thinks, even though there are some games of them I like, I must admit that were not... correct... and if they are going to continue this way... they will end badly.... really badly, so, I think they need to give some importance for other franchises other than Resident Evil and Street Fighter (I mean, they have Okami, God Hand, and Phoenix Wright, for mention a few), that and start to getting serious, because, one more time, if they dont, the future of them will not be very good
Now, lets just hope that Megaman will return one day (right now, Im going to search for the megaman of the main series to play)

I'm with you there on so many points. I think Capcom is changing, but they don't seem to understand what made them successful. You can only rehash content so long and you can't ignore consumers, especially not today where the average gamer is 35 and has money.

I just know they'll make UMVC3 Arcade edition within a month of this. Side they're proving a point I've had for years Capcom = Lazy.

That's for sure!

Well they've got their Capcom VS Tekken game coming up soon (what a joke), they've managed to make the models look even crappier somehow.

Agreed, even if these rehashes are cheaper I'm not forking money out for tweaked characters in the same engine over and over.

Man, I'm "officially" adding this to my new Jam since it's completely related to it and I knew you'd done it anyway had I posted my journal earlier, as intended originally.

And Capcom sucks big time lately...when it's about updating easily update yearly titles like Dead Rising 2 (Frank West edition coming soon!) or any of their fighter, they don't hesitate. When it's making a game from scratch like the fan favorite and much anticipated new Mega Man Legends...they first give it to a small dev' team with barely any budget...to finally cancel it so close to completion..man...they suck big time lately!! >__<

I know a lot of people won't agree but I often don't like the 'official' art used for Capcom products. Udon?...

Anyway, Capcom, like any games company, change over time. Especially when you consider the huge turn over of staff in the games industry. Sega games, for example, don't have anywhere near the quality they used to have in games design, music design, graphic design, or character design (Just look at what Sonic turned into! An overly-loud EXTREEEEEEEEEEME surfer-type DUUUDE who is IN YOUR FAAACE and ALWAYS listens to [bland] ROOOOCK MUSIIIIIC!!! "Sonic" used to be my nickname, believe it or not! I feel ashamed!). The games have more polygons and special effects, but you don't have to play the games for long to realize how sub-par the games are. Maybe the reason Capcom are dismissing the idea of doing a new Megaman game is because they KNOW they don't have the collective talent and inventiveness to do it justice! Or maybe they have made a game but it just plain sucks and they know it'll be slated if they release it!

Rant over... think zen.... inner piece... inner piece.. and relax.

AtomicTiki In reply to Andes-Sudo [2011-07-24 22:31:49 +0000 UTC]

I find their art to be a mixed bag, personally I prefer their older artworks from the 90s and early 2000s.

You might be on to something there, I think as these companies have increased in staff they may have lost the agility they need to make quality games happen.

I work in the software industry and often you can do a better job with a smaller team than a larger one, regardless of dedication or skill.

SEGA its still good, and saying that they dont have the sound quality that they have before its TOO wrong, for me of course, and about Sonic, you feel ashamed? well, Im not going to even comment this, as for the games, well I dont know if you are informed, but Sonic Team are the people who make the Sonic Games, not SEGA, they only publish the games (same for the other developers like Dimps or even Platinum Games), and talking about the 3D games of him, most of them are great games, well except Shadow and 2006, those games have many flaws, hasnt played any of Wii, but.... Unleashed and Heroes were great, yet they were overly bashed, one because was a lack of great quality and the "beggining of the fall" (say them) and the other HERP DERP WEREHOG HURR HURR.... seriously, and dont get me star on the GREEN EYEZ, ANOREXIC, BLACK EYES OVER GREEN SHITTY FRIENDS!!!111ONREWSLAK, ugh, with the sole though of it, its warms my blood, and now because of them the few sane people who like to play to other chars like Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Shadow, we cant, because of them... and what its worse, the fucking Sonic Cycle who appear in EVERY FUCKING THREAD OF SONIC that I see... ugh, I seriusoly hate all of this bullshit....

I read that , totally sucked. For a few years now ive been wondering what the hells gone wrong with gaming. My worst hate is the degeneration of RPGs overall, as thats what I was a fan of mostly.

But Im getting sick of re boots that take the game away from anything hardly resembling what its supposed to be based on. Way too many brainless low effort fighting games and shooters that are 80% the same as the last game. And getting disks where 1/2 the games is a DLC for content that should have been on the game in the first place.

AtomicTiki In reply to 1nnocenttazlet [2011-07-23 16:41:40 +0000 UTC]

Just one of those things I suppose... so many companies get it right but it seems like the big Japanese game developers (CAPCOM, SQUARE-ENIX, Konami, etc) are incapable of making decent games lately... or rational decisions for that matter

1nnocenttazlet In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-07-23 19:36:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah games have gone a little too mainstream and you cant help but think most are aimed at kids spoilt with every gadget that wont even hardly play the game after getting it and bowling them over with fancy graphics. Just like TV these days aswell so much crap and so little substance.

Lols to this day I still hope for an anti 3d movement in games eventually and 2d style comes back. Retro gamings all in with vitual consoles and stuff, I really hope one day they decided to make some new 2d games with the new consoles graphics. I wont hold my breath but I can live and dream it will be on consoles not just hand helds.

AtomicTiki In reply to 1nnocenttazlet [2011-07-24 23:04:53 +0000 UTC]

I think 3D is just here to stay, but yeah I wish they'd focus more on gameplay than razzle dazzle. I mean you can have a game that looks good but it doesn't mean anything if it's a chore to play!

1nnocenttazlet In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-07-26 23:55:28 +0000 UTC]

Ohes I never think 3d will go I just hope the 2d style returns as a niche market or a new genre. Like New Retro or something. But yeah I wish they would spend some more time in many games working more on the controls. Fact is your never gonna notice how pretty the background is if your getting annoyed with the game.

Capcom has become really crappy lately, it's like the CN version on not knowing what the fans actually like: Megaman as you mention, the recent Resident Evil games become more thriller action then horror, they are rebooting Devil May Cry with a freaking emo Twilight Dante and the actions look awful, the first game from DMC had better stuff than that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtomicTiki In reply to grimphantom [2011-07-23 16:11:26 +0000 UTC]

That's a perfect analogy, you expect Cartoons on something called Cartoon Network the same way you expect support for Mega Man from CAPCOM.

Oh yes, I forgot all about Emo Dante, what a gong show!
