Heh, I think my favourite was Upshot-Knothole Grable (or the firing of "Atomic Annie"; the M65 Atomic cannon). Everything about that concept and test was crazy...

Watch the uncut video on wikipedia. It takes 19s or so from firing the cannon until the detonation. A small eternity.^^

It's funny now, I can remember growing up during the Cold War and thinking at any moment it could all be over... kids today don't have that hanging over their heads. I wonder if it makes them different somehow?
