Description
i haven't been submitting anything in awhile now, therefore i thought i would post the Kate Winslet drawing. the drawing is almost completed, except for the background ( which by the time i update this i will complete the background so for the meantime sry to et you suffer looking at it ).i chose the reference was because of the expression as well as the colours of the picture. i wanted to use the reference as a colour practice and i am alright with how it came out. this drawing i included it in my portfolio interview for art school, thus i rushed the hair at the top eft of drawing as well as the ear as you can see. Kate has gorgeous features and she acted in many films- the 1st film i saw her in a movie is Titanic as the leading actress. shes a great actress.
this drawing is done over 30hours.
with colour pencil and pencil
sry for the bad quality ( 2 mega pixel phone ) - the details are blurred as well as some colours don't look full mostly. i wil update with a scan on this deviation. so now this should be it. hope you all like it

A long trip, but the drawing is done! First of all the drawing has a great sense of expression and the motion/aliveness is very good. The composition of the hair is awesome and very convincing real. I do think that the upper mouth has a little unreal quality, but it goes fair unnoticed.
What I definitly see in your growth as an artist you try to watch out for main compose, now there will lie your next challenges I think. You see that left and right eye. Vieuwers right is composed subtile darker as in goes a bit into back... Now along that you need to understand how the face on the same vertical level will get darker too as it vanishes in the background. Now this is playing with lightfall-composition and it is very difficult to understand.
Now your colour balance is great, your contrastial balance is good, but you might need to play a bit more contrastial tonal range if you want to get develop further then this. Right now it has a convincing photo quality and I sense you're ripe to go on the next understanding level of your artistic vocabulairy. It is a front I do have to learn too.
In overal I'm in awe that you've developed hugely as I knew you came at first to ZZ and I know you've tried free-imagination projects aswell. For such a young artist you've got certainly some heavy potential and I think you can take on free mind drawings alot better with the knowledge you did with this drawing. You'll know where you stand and learn to trust on what makes sense and what not in a natural way.
Congrats on a fantastic drawing, mate, and one to celebrate to share for us vieuwers.
Well done!!

hey thanks Mike for making an effort in bringing out the things that i can take note of yea i agree, its true about the mouth, maybe along with the ear when i get the scanned version!
i feel that i have to work on more drawings and cultivate the patience, maybe its partially that i don;t really favour much direct referencing but rather something more creative thats why i rushed some parts.
thank you for your valuable advice, and i surely agree with you also on the playing with contrastal values and i definitey understand what you're trying to bring out in the lightfall issue. its very fun though in the process of learning about tonal -mainy the subtle shades in the light tonal regions as well as shades hiding in the darker regions especialy on the skin area-, lightfall issues.
all the best for your current rose drawing, thanks again for taking the time out to drop by!
