XD, simply put, the moonfall incident was when the entire moon started to descend to Remnant. Grimm spawned relentlessly and in greater numbers. But a response to that. The moon's closer proximity awakened every living being at the time's faunus heritage and an extension of their semblances.
Without warning the moon stopped falling a somepoint from unknown means, just suspended above the skies of Remnant.

An illusion? Doubt it because I can't see one and the human leg doesn't bend that way. So my best guess is she's got robo legs shaped like Raptor feet.
