She can lift it on her own, but it doesn't change the fact that she wouldn't be able to see where she is aiming. If she had a camera lens in the front as well, it would make more sense to do it without the mirror. But since the camera lens is in the back and the screen is in the front, if she had the camera facing her she wouldn't be able to see where she is aiming the camera, using magic to hold it or not. Β That is why ladies use the mirror.
They could aim it at themselves and hope for the best. I wouldn't if I took selfies, which I don't, because I don't want to have a lot of mistake pictures. Even if you "stand the phone up and have it on delay", that is a lot of set up one has to do, and even then they will have to fiddle with the angle until they get it right. If someone wanted to be professional about it, that would be a good way to go, but most of the girls these days want to be able to get it done fast, less effort, and have it look good. Thus, mirror.
