Upon waking, I always roll up my futon and place it in the cupboard. That way there is more space in the house for the rest of the day. Then I go into our small cooking area and prepare some rice with raw egg and Soya sauce for breakfast. After my meal, I clean the mess I have made so as not to bother any guests that may come later. Then I go to practice my art. Picking up my katana, I walk into the field. My body knows the motions better than I do, my exercises do not require thought. A slash, turn, guard up, slash down. Over and again until another man comes into the field. After he practices for a small time, we spar. It is invigorating, to hear the ring of the metal connecting with the steel he has in his hands. To feel the sweat drip off of my body is refreshing and soothing. The way the world seems to disappear in the afternoon sun makes me feel at one with everything around me. As more come, we take turns sparring with different people. After the day is about to end, we all go to our homes; the day near its’ end. I prepare another meal, more rice, eat and clean up the remains. Then I again unroll my futon and sleep, waiting for the day to arrive once again.
