Description
Joe Shimamura is the titular protagonist of Cyborg 009. Joe is a young Japanese-American orphan who was blamed for the murder of the priest who had raised him, as he ran from the police he attempted to kill himself by jumping off the side of a cliff. His body was however recovered by the arms dealer and terrorist Black Ghost and turned into the final cyborg go the 00 series 009 the most advanced to date. The very first day after he wakes up from his operation the other cyborgs stage a revolt and without having time to process he’s swept up into fighting for his freedom and getting out alive. Joe remains one of the more thoughtful of the group as they go on the run and never really seems to be able to fully deal with his past life, but he is very much committed to his new one and his new friends.

This is counting on my on request to cast all the new power rangers. Ludi Lin is the Canadian actor and marital artist who plays Zach, The Black Ranger Ludi is neither Japanese or really close to Joe’s age, but he did an okay job with playing a teenager for Power Rangers so the age thing can be worked around. What really got me started on this was once the facade of Zach’s personality was kind of lifted away a little, he was also a fairly traumatized young man who had a lot of problems to deal with and wasn’t really sure how just like how Joe is presented in the anime. And since the Cyborg Soldiers are basically the transitionary stage between Astroboy and Super Sentai groups like the Rangers I thought Joe seemed like a fitting character for him to take up.
