the way you touch me:
holding hands, an arm around my waist, pressing a kiss into my messy hair.
But I can’t
because I’m shy.
If I could, I would tell you
the things you tell me:
“I love you”, “you’re amazing”, “don’t worry, I’m here.”
But I can’t
because I’m scared.
Since I can, I should.
I should express myself the best I can:
practicing braids on my sisters hair to deftly assemble in yours
learning love songs until my fingers ache from repetition and my voice fades
Trying to sort out my jumble of thoughts onto paper.
And I do
