I left.
and I missed you.
Missed your random singing and your teasing.
Missed our late night talks about everything
we never wanted to know about the other.
And how I combed the tangles out of your hair.
In return, you told me about you
giving me answers for questions I
hadn't thought of.
I missed how you would suddenly hold me close on the street
without caring who saw us,
and not letting go until the last breath of air was
gone from my lungs.
Missed your constant comments from my side
on everything and everyone-
often funny, always worth hearing.
Guessing the stories of strangers
constantly in character.
I know I’ll have to leave again, that we can’t always
pick up a phone or dash off a letter.
But that’s not what I’m thinking about right now.
I’m thinking about what you told me
and when I see you again in the fall
the hug you will get
will need someone to pry me off you
because I never want to let you go.
