Okay, I got a transcript to write but I really wanted to finish this. I have no idea why I colored it... it was supposed to just be another sorryboard but before I knew it I was coloring in the cave and all that.This is Hitchups!Alivia (she exists in two worlds! Amaaazing). My canon!CtL Hiccup never encountered mermaids that I know of, but we all know the Hitchups one did.
I just LOVE the mermaids more and more. As predators, that is. They have very particular feelings about humans, possessiveness mixed with distain. They have this lively, childlike aura
Alivia is a female human, which puts her in a safer position than a man, but she's also the child of one of their possessions. I believe Hiccup was marked as property of the mermaids after Alivia was conceived, which would also make her a bit safer (I think?), but I'm not sure. I have to check my facts again.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what do your mermaids do to men? Do they strip our flesh from our bones and crack them for marrow? Disney's The Little Mermaid they ain't.
Yeah, I really like Alivia, at least the little I've seen of her. As a Bog, she'd probably get along just fine with merfolk.

Hahaha - hey, I love getting spammed like this! As for Livvy and the mermaids… well, they'd only tolerate her because she, as they believe, belongs to them. She's a product of their property, after all. That provides her minimal protection. Probably won't stop them from scaring her or pulling her hair or something along those lines. Remember the mermaids from Peter Pan? They'd 'play' like that.
As for men… mermaids, I imagine, do a little flesh stripping and bone grinding. Sometimes they play with their food - hold them underwater, let them breathe one breath, hold them down again. Laughing all the while. Mermaids, man. Mermaids.

It's been forever since I've seen Peter Pan, but I know to what you refer. Wow, I never thought that those things could be dangerous. No member of mankind is safe from the mermaids? Oh dear.
A question, will Hiccup ever be in danger from the mermaids? I know they're not nice to him anymore since his second visit, but he's not in mortal danger around them. Is there a point that he outlives his entertainment value to the mermaids?

Nope - no one is safe from them.
And Hiccup is always kinda in danger of them. They'll hurt him, but to them it's just 'playing'. He's too afraid of staying away from them for too long to never not show up. And he never really outlives his entertainment value. He's still their property and mermaids never relinquish their property without reason.

Child-like aura? I'm guessing that's like a kid's "Mine!" attitude, right? If not, what kind of kids were you around? XD
Grammar Nazi here, but there's a double negative there. You mean that he's too afraid to never return? The beautifully deadly mermaids would hunt him down? Also, is the mermaid's mark on his lips, where she bit him?

Haha - actually grammar-nazi, double negatives aren't the anti-grammar our generation was told. They were considered correct and common for a long time until recently when some uppity readers decided to call them bad.
But you got the gist of it. Hiccup… if he "avoids" them for too long, or is perceived as avoiding them, well they might hurt him a bit. He just wants to avoid that at all costs. He doesn't know what they would do if he never returned. Plus, it's not like he hates them -- he's just very very wary of them. They're too good of an ally to have to piss off.
And the mark is on the back of his neck. She did bite his lip, but she dug her claws into his neck. That was how she claimed him as property.

When you say "ally", you're referring to the protection that belonging to a mermaid affords, right? Without the mark, he'd be vampire food, and worse. Yeah, Hiccup's very wise. I'd be very cautious around mermaids too.

EEP! OMG, I read this and my jaw dropped. I am in LOVE WITH THIS!!! PLEASE tell me you intend to put a chapter based off of this in Without a Hitch!!!! I absolutely love Alivia, she is actually my favourite character from you even though she is rarely mentioned in depth in your stories (at least the ones I've read). I know you said that she takes after Stoick; I can only imagine a family reunion with Hiccup, Stoick and Alivia XD.

Also… Alivia's tiny fanbase always comes as a shock to me, especially since she is the offspring of a non-canon pairing. I just love love for her because I feel like it triumphs over the fangirl/fanboy googles people wear and sees a character for who she is outside of parentage.
I haven't really written much about her since she's really just a baby in terms of writing-wise. But art-wise I enjoy playing around with the Bog Burglar she grows up to be

What if Mermaids reproduced like my Nagas?
What If all mermaids were female and they reproduced with blood?
That would be interesting, maybe a super good idea for future things...

That would be... creeepy. I never really thought of how they reproduced, just their more aggressive sides. How they manipulate and collect, both treasures and men. I do like the idea of them being exclusively female. Or maybe they have the odd male offspring but eat them

Not sure if I'm interrupting something, but I would be interested in seeing a story where's one male mermaid that somehow escaped being eaten.
It would be an amazing story, but it's all up to you.

If you eve get the time, try it out. Write a couple samples and see if you might want to take it farther.

For some reason, I totally LOVE this art...I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the water running down Alivia's hair and arms, maybe it's the way she's tucking her hair behind her ear...I don't know but I LOVE THIS. Honestly, I think it's your best work.

Haha seriously, though. I've read every chapter of Hitchups, Without a Hitch, and Crossing the Line, and have seen just about every artwork you do. You are seriously my favorite author and artist on FF and dA, and the only reason I haven't entered any of your awesome contests is 'cause I can't draw worth crap. You made me love Ruffcup AND Hiccami, and unfortunately now I am totally ruined for Hiccup/Astrid. No big, though. 
Anyways, yes!! I want to hear more of Alivia's adventures! Can I hope for a teeny, tiny spin-off series???

And especially that you like this so much! You know, there was something about Alivia's pose that I loved as well. Even for the stuff I try really hard on (because I don't usually like my anatomy) she just turned out much too well not to go through with the entire comic. And then splash some color on it.
I am positively wowed that you've read all my stuff though and rifled through all my art. I'm also a teensy big self-satisfied that I made you love Ruffcup and Hiccami so much (and I wasn't really trying with the Ruffcup considering I've only ever written it one-sided 
But what I will 
You know, after this I might just have to start doing more sorryboards and Alivia focused work.

And your anatomy is AMAZING, what are you talking about?! Better than me, that's for sure. The only thing I've ever drawn successfully involving the human form was a charcoal sketch of a girl in a bathtub. And I drew her back and hair, no facial features, not even a nose! Your characters are realistic enough to think of as live-action but cartoon-y enough to be faithful to canon. And that is an accomplishment in itself, not to mention your mad story skills.
I have to go but please know that you are an incredible artist through-and-through and I LOVE YOU!!!

Well, Alivia, the character, is a hypothetical child from one of the HTTYD characters. But the situations, the mermaids and her existence and everything are from THIS story . I recommend it, even if you don't watch HTTYD. I've been told it's pretty easy to get into without needing to know anything from canon.
