Description
Pedro Jiménez is a major character from the Folk Hero side of my OC Universe, serving as a major antagonist to Grace known simply as "The Inquisitor". Though she first encounters him in 19th century Mexico, he is much, much older than that. How much older, I've yet to decide, but I usually hover his original lifespan sometime around the 11th century. Originally a lowly pilgrim from medieval Spain, Pedro Jiménez got his career rolling as a soldier fighting in the Reconquista. In these earliest days, he was quite a noble character, not harboring any particular hate against the Muslims themselves and more focused on securing the borders of Christianity specifically. Things began their slow unraveling when he and his buddy Tiago were sent off to the Crusades. At some point, Pedro plucked from a dead soldier an artifact which he believed allowed him to talk to God, and it eventually became apparent that it also granted him eternal youth. Pedro decided that it was his divine mission to walk the Earth forever and defend the faith wherever he went, no matter the cost… That cost, it turned out, would be Tiago, who became infected by a scourge of vampires they were fighting. Tiago found himself dangling off a cliff while they were trying to escape the hoard, but instead of saving his friend, Pedro abandoned him as a lost cause. Tiago would never forgive his friend, and would later go on to become his arch nemesis and vampire lord.

Pedro would wander much of the Old World for the next few hundred years. He served in all the major Crusades, helped overthrow the degrading Templar Order, hunted vampires in Romania, and witnessed the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans. All the while, his immortality and the "divine" voices in his head started to get to him. He became more and more delusional, more and more extreme as he saw enemies closing in on all sides. The major breaking point came in 1521, however, as he was sent to explore this mysterious New World across the Atlantic. Here in Mexico, he witnessed an Aztec blood sacrifice, watched a beating human heart plucked from a chest, and got showered in viscera. It was such a traumatic sight that he went absolutely mad, and vowed to stay in Mexico to "cleanse the devil worshipers" as he put it. In other words, he became a genocidal maniac, completely blinded by the now silent word of his God. It is in this state that Grace would come across him during her travels through Mesoamerican mythology. She was the only thing standing between him and the complete annihilation of the indigenous peoples. He's very much meant to be her character foil. But that's a story for another day

Design notes, I'm not entirely certain what's going on with his proportions. That really got away from me, it seems. I'm happy with the composition itself, though. Obviously my base was the cardinal uniform you'd expect of a Spanish Inquisitor… that is of course if anyone could expect the Spanish Inquisition. Most of his bits and baubles are just leather accepts to highlight the more medieval warrior aspect of his character. This is a rugged pilgrim who has walked more miles than anyone will in their lifetime. He also has a big ass sword, because of course he does. Normally I'm not a huge fan of big ass swords, as they're kind of a pain in the ass to incorporate, but they have their place. I think they best highlight characters with some flavor of delusions of grandeur, and you're of course free to insert your own dick joke here. I still think it would look a little better if I had made him a little more muscular. I wanted to go for a half-starved lunatic sort of vibe, but that kinda clashes with the image in my head that he can swing that thing with one hand like some edgy goth teenager's OC. Idk, probably one I'll revisit whenever I get around to more Folk Hero stuff.
