I redo this Athena (my oc) portrait annually and decided I might as well redo it for some human practice (since I haven’t drawn humans too often recently) and to see how far my art has come over the past couple of years.

I have a lot of ups and downs with my style, I’m never really happy with it because I compare myself to other people a lot, my style also changes a ton which adds to the dissatisfaction with my art in general. I’m trying to break that habit for this coming year. Looking back, I’ve made a lot of progress which I’m really happy about. My own progress is what I should be focusing on, not other artists.
I also realised that it’s ok for my style to change around a lot, it means I’m taking in new artists and techniques. If you think you can only have one style, that’s 100% not true. You’re totally allowed to have however many styles you want, it gives you a lot more freedom which I never really thought of until this year. Try experiment and do new stuff with your art, it’s helped me a lot.
