DAY 77

Today we have PIXAR's 10th film, UP. Done today because Carl's 78 years old and today's the 78th day. Quite a sight, huh?
When the teaser came out, no one knew what to think of it. An old man flying his house with balloons? ... Wha? But when it came out in May of 2009, it was amazing how beautiful it was. The story is really bizarre and out-there at points, but that's CLEARLY the intention, very much like Disney's wild adventure fantasy movies from the 60s. There's a lot of comedic moments, silent moments, emotional moments and every character has a connection with each other and plays beautifully. From the first 10 minutes of the couple's married life to the great discovery of Paradise Falls, there's so many sweet moments that are here. Animation? Phsaw, as if I even need to praise PIXAR. Taking inspiration to the works of Mary Blair, it's so colorful at every turn and simplistic with it's designs, yet it works. Each of the characters are lovable, have their own charms, great voices and a relationships. The sound is beautiful, from the beautiful score by Michael Giacchino and fitting sound effects. Is the set-up insane? Of course it is, especially since it has elements of modern day 2009. Seeing this adventurous stuff in South America doesn't come out of nowhere, because, hey, we were able to believe a house could fly with just balloons. Right when you think PIXAR would get rusty with their first milestone film (they made it to 10), they managed to touch the hearts of everyone again with one of the greatest films of 2009 and one of their best films ever. Finally, keep an eye out in crowd shots, 'cause you'll literally find Steve from Blue's Clues in there!
