Description
In 2XXX a large meteor is discovered within Earth's orbital path. The world sends a team to blow up the meteor and the mission is a success, causing the meteor to split up and rain upon the earth harmlessly. Large chunks strike the earth in certain areas and other small chunks dissolve into the atmosphere.
The large chunks are dismissed as nothing but large quartz rocks and puzzle scientists all over the world. Social media deems it a false disaster and after several years it fades into obscurity. Many years later the world begins to experience and undergo massive desertification, causes all water in the world to evaporate. Panic rises and half of the world population dies without easy access to fresh water.
The rocks the originally fell to earth eventually start changing colors depending on the area of the earth they fell in and their biomes.
Humanity evolves over the years to retain water and water is seen as a luxury and less as a necessity.
Humans gain a special organ which converts the oxygen from sand into water inside the body by eating. This is possible because of the silica found it(silicon dioxide, or SiO2).

These colored crystals immediately dissolve anything into its basic mineral properties when in base contact, except silver. Essentially anything it touches dissolves into sand.

The crystal is known as Midas and the elemental makeup is still unknown. The name is based off the story of King Midas, who's touch turned everything into gold, whether he wanted to or not.
Soon Midas weaponry starts to hit the market and is used for nefarious purposes. Unlike bullets or knives, touching someone with these is a guaranteed kill.

Think civilization reduced in numbers, but not by technology.

Story takes place in what is now known as the Deep Frontier or the middle of what was once the pacific ocean.

Main hero is an older gentleman named Levi, age 23.

For story purposes (no spoilers) Levi's right arm and hand has obtained the same properties as these crystals and can now melt away anything he touches, like sand slipping through his fingers.
Levi is a traveler and the main plot of the story is his journey to find out how he obtained this gift. Along the way he meets everyone from the song This Is War. One of the last memories of his past.
Levi has a habit of making up his hand's origin and changing it every time. He is a known liar, but is whole-hearted believer in the silver lining of everything.

The Soldier - Jack
A former fighter, he now fights as a high ranking soldier, because he didn't believe gladiatorial combat gave his life any purpose. His prized position is a pair of silver gauntlets lined with crystals that he won from his arena days.

The Civilian - Anne Huntington
Uses a silver knife with a crystal blade to create beautiful works of art on the Crystals. She sells them to make a living.

The Martyr - Abigail
Levi's family member (spoilers).

The Victim - Helen
Someone who was not born with the special organ.

The Prophet - Zyz'zilee'ope
A woman with unknown origins who thinks by using the "council" in her head to decide.

The Liar - Rado
The younger twin and an excellent cook.
