Description
Many years before life on earth, there was no emotion. No living soul in the solar system, none in the galaxy, and none light years away. But further than the furthest star was a race who had evolved emotion and thought. They were machine in nature and hive like in action. They lived only by instinct, action, and swiftly multiplied. They multiplied beyond evolutionary standards and covered the stars. Without conflict, their only war was with that of the endless expanse of space and mysteries it held.Eventually the race realized it was war they could not win. A game with no victor. Exploration is infinite and knowledge of all that was possible would forever be out of their grasp. This conclusion sparked their first major evolutionary change. Hesitation and doubt. The unknown. Fear.
It was from this that the race receded. Terrified, they withdrew all their numbers into a single location. Huddled together with the only thing they knew for sure, each other. The entire race melded together to form a great cocoon, their home soon became their prison and slowly it drifted through space. It was in this cocoon that the race evolved. What once was many melded into a single being. A singular mind packed with billions of doubts and thoughts of the unknown.
The cocoon lashed out at the first thing it encountered, a small ice planet. In a few seconds, the planet was gone, ravaged by this single being of raw emotion, raw hatred for anything that would disturb it.
Eventually the being grew tired rage. The fear was still there, destroying it from within. The being was getting desperate. The being had passed earth once before, but its life had nothing to offer. It was the second time around that the being became interested. The life had transformed from beings like it was once, into something else. The being watched the life multiply like it had done so itself. It watched it think, react, and move with purpose. Would this life repeat the same mistakes it had?
Something had to change. Otherwise this life would make the same mistakes it had. The being submerged itself into the water and split itself up. A single mind merging with the life of earth itself. To make sure the being did not disappear completely, it encoded itself into the DNA of life. It planted itself within dreams so that it could guide life subconsciously and help it. Everything living thing dreamed and it was through these dreams that it could influence decisions and thoughts on a grand scale. The life on earth could fight back and maybe this time, with some help, they could win.
What the being did not count on though, was that the fear had evolved as well. From fear was born horror and despair. Nightmares and night terrors.
This being could not do it alone. Using itself as a guide and a leader, the being created an army of dreamers that could help others. Calling them, Divers, those chosen could dive into other’s memories and dreams and fight back.
Overtime the war eventually changed as well. Originally Divers fought back with hope, but reality made it weak and eventually hope was abandoned. By a cruel twist of fate and irony, fear was the best at fighting fear. Caution become reason, reasoning became acceptance, and acceptance became zen.
Fear was weaponized into phobias and these phobias cut through the horror and eventually came upon 6 primordial fears. Fears that could be linked together to conquered and banish the concept of the unknown.
The Fear of Extinction. The fear of annihilation, of ceasing to exist.
The Fear of Mutilation. The fear of losing any part of our being; the thought of having our boundaries invaded, or of losing the integrity of anything vital, personal, or a natural function.
Fear of Control. The fear of being immobilized, paralyzed, restricted, enveloped, overwhelmed, entrapped, imprisoned, smothered, or otherwise controlled by circumstances beyond our control.
Fear of Separation. The fear of abandonment, rejection, and loss of connectedness; of becoming a non-person—not wanted, respected, or valued by anyone or anything else.
Fear of Ego-Death. The fear of humiliation, shame, or any other mechanism of profound self-disapproval that threatens the loss of integrity of the Self; the fear of the shattering or disintegration of one's constructed sense of lovability, capability, and worthiness.
It is after the loss at the Battle of Separation that an unknown Diver emerged. Wielding the ancient weapon of Hope and forging it into something new. A sword of great power and unknown properties. The Hope of Two.
