Description

Friday night; the end of another long week of Avi trying to teach her hooligans and me desperately trying to clean up after them.  As friends do, Avi and I decide to pick out a movie to unwind.

“Do you have like every Disney movie ever made?” I ask snarkily as I sort through several DVD’s. “Or should I say, do you have anything besides Disney?”

“Don’t judge me!” Avi calls from her seat in front of the TV as she hooks up the DVD player. “I grew up a Disney kid.  But we do have the Left Behind movie series that isn’t Disney.”

I spot a case with that title and pull it into my lap.  “So you have a grand total of three movies that aren’t Disney?”

           “Shut up!” Avi calls back.

“What are they about?” I ask as I study the cover. “They look pretty cool.”

“They’re based on a book series,” Avi says. “They were an interpretation of the Biblical prophecy of the end times with the Rapture and everything.”  I look around the corner with a confused look on my face.  She sighs, “You know, where Jesus comes back and takes all the Christians to heaven and then the world goes to crap?  That’s what this movie attempts, what happens when that happens?”

“Well, it sounds better than Disney,” I say, not entirely convinced. “And since these are our only options after you canceled our Netflix account-”

“We needed the extra money for groceries!” Avi whines. “Do you think I would have given up my Grey’s Anatomy if it weren’t for a really good reason?”

“Fair enough,” I say as my gaze returns to the movie case.  I nod, “Let’s do it!”

Avi’s face lights up. “Those were some of my favorite movies as a teen!  I can probably quote the whole movie by heart.”

“So you’re telling me you’re gonna fall asleep since you’ve seen the movie so many times?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.

“No!” Avi counters. “They’re actually really good.  There’s a lot of action in them.  And I don’t fall asleep during movies.”

“Famous last words, Av,” I say shaking my head. “Famous last words.”  Avi rolls her eyes as she takes the movie from me and puts it in the DVD player and we both get situated on the couch with our snacks.

About an hour in and I am fully engrossed in the movie as I sip on my Dr. Pepper.  “You weren’t kidding, Avi,” I say from my position curled up on my half of the couch.  I don’t hear a response.  “Avi?” I ask as I look up at the saber sitting beside me.  Her head is tilted to the side and I can hear soft snores coming out of her mouth.  I chuckle as I shake my head and lay my feet across her lap.  “What did I say?  Famous last words,” I mutter as I return my focus to the movie.
