The pack looks great, but I think you could've increased the dynamics of the metaballs DM and your superscope presets, and I also think you could use with coming up with your own ideas for a change...but I applaud your skills.

BTW ernst...we hate you to

Man, stuff looks good as always. I think you have entered more "new" realms than in your last few paks, i.e. explored more ideas from multiple angles. Some worked, some were just ok. Either way your composition is always excellent even if you were lacking response or that certain random chaos that some of the people seem to be attracted to. Personal fave is High Tech by far, so spectacular. Also really enjoyed the "binary" (0010101...) preset, I think the empty space is excellent for this preset.

Looks great.

Anyone else that comments on this... Could it please be about the presets and not this pointless debate of music response vs math?

I never tried to instigate this... I just make presets, and they may be different. So what?

El-vis you simply hit my point, not because you told I'm rigth, but rather because those two techniqe should coexist together, and this what I mostly see in your presets.
Unfortunately it looks like you are the only one able to merge them with good balance.

There are killer ideas and fresh looks inside this pack making it outstanding but I agree a little with Ernst: On some of the presets you lost the music and concentrated too much on math and technical things. I know what I am talking about 'cause I think some of my presets suffer from the same problem though I always tried to fight it. I think some additional beat/music reponsive and crazy effects on this and that preset here would have made this pack REALLY COOL.

Fabry is right - showing AVS to people never seen AVS before they prefer crazy psychedelic and colorful ones but this is lasting only for some time and then they get bored/overloaded so one has to prevent different visual input. So a good mixture of psychedelic, techno and stylish presets is making up an interesting experience for the audience. Too bad that there is still no simple way to prevent a certain order of the presets in a pack. If so it would be possible for the AVS-artist to create little "stories" made up by multiple presets of different styles.

This is for skuper, and please don't get me wrong!

Don't give me link to a pages where show sythetizers and music composers!!!
When I bought my first sythetizer you weren't even born!
I've composed electronic music for more than 20 years, and it got nothing to do with MATH!
Computer can help, but it can't compose melodies, and if it does, is music created from a CPU. Without human heart, feeling and brain, music in the real terms can not exist!

Or if you prefer, you are welcome, maybe after 10 or 20 years we will be able to listen on the radio:

"Todays best hit is the new song from the great "Pentium IIIIIIII" 100Ghz, enjoy!"

I gues you like this !

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to blame somebody here. I always respect David even though he's 16 yrs younger than me, so does El-vis I believe. It's ok to criticize a piece of art, but I think it's not proper to contemp the creator in front of the public. We don't want to heat up this talks anymore, thanks to +Jsenn for cooling down this forum.
btw, i like this pack more than his previous packs. Very responsive and great use of buffering. Things like parafold, cellularautomata, nightcrawler, still live and clubbedtodeath (hey i love that song too) are truly nice views. All in all, this goes to my favorite. Congrats dude!

It distresses me so much for you gentlemen to get upset over each other, when you all make such beautiful art. Everyone of you has wonderful talent for creating avs art, you have a passion for this art and really that is all that is important.

It is different strokes for different folks. Some like just watching the motion of avs. They like to see something different, spectacular. They don't care if it moves with the beat of the music. So let this be, don't you see, and you who create in this style, fantastic!, because it does not have to be one or the other but many and then avs appeals to all people.

You never get mad at Marco, you all have so much wonderful respect for Marco, and his avs is very different from anyones. Sometimes his don't listen to the music. Do you get mad?, no. You care about the design the color the innovative patterns. It is the same with El-vis work.

David is popular. He has been here a long time. He works hard on his art and enjoys it. His work is different, Ernst, but it is good to the people who love his art.

And Ernst, you create beautiful art which listens to the music and that appeals to a great many people which has made your art more and more popular. Now, I see you have taken it down again, and I cry, Ernst, because you take your art that is beautiful, and you waste it, you throw it in the garbage.

You all know how I feel personally. I have said it many times and at this point that doesn't even matter but YOU matter to me more than anything else. I care about YOU and your relationship to one another. I care about all of YOU creating and showing your art. Just be gentle with each other. There is a place for all of us here. I love you all.....Joy

Hey, calm down Ernst.

1) Intelligence has got nothing to do with age.

2) Bad copies? So writing your own 3d SSC code makes you a copy. I wrote one myself. (If you don't believe it, look at a EL-VIS 3d SSC, a UnConeD 3d SSC and then one of mine. See the differences).

3) And music is math. [link] Everything is math. And math can create great art and music: [link] . Feeling can also create great music.

The only once that deserve the title "GENIUS" in this 3D art is El-vis and Unconed the rest is just A bunch of bad copys, and they know it! thats why they are so depending on each others comments, oh i forgot one thing they are just kids that just left mama's milk, and are rebellious, just wondering those that likes to watch presets like this they must be rather unintelligent if it amuse them. And it is easier to do a gifanim
then or flash, it does the same job but perhaps it's to much work for them.

ONE MORE THING ! IF MUSIC WAS MATH !
THEN NO MUSIC WOULD BE HEARD IN THIS WORLD, YOU CAN DEFINE MUSIC IN MATHEMATICAL TERMS (AS YOU CAN DEFINE ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD WITH MATH), YES, AND YOU COUNTING BEATS YES WHEN YOU PLAY PERHAPS BUT
THATS IT, IF YOU ARE A MUSICIEN/ARTIST YOU KNOW THAT IT IS FEELINGS THAT CREAT GREAT MUSIC/ART (NOT MATH), AND SO IT IS WITH THIS AVS-ART. AND I STILL THINK THIS IS GARBAGE.

About the repeating though... Maybe the metaballs was used too many times, but it is such a awesome dm that it's ok you use it in many different ways.

You are a genius and you know it.
Use your wisdom wisely.

btw. ravelighting... great dm, bad background You could do great dot ssc's by yourself so you wouldn't have to give any credit for me

fabry399 [2002-06-03 11:55:22 +0000 UTC]

O.k. I don’t know how to start, but anyway I’ll try. This is a great pack as well as all the other packs that contain complicated superscopes and DM. Of course, as I always do with all the packs or presets I download from here or winamp, I collect in my favorites folder only the ones that impress me the most. Some of yours that I also wanted to collect, I couldn’t keep because I’m unable to fully enjoy a preset with 4/5 fps, anyway, I especially admire the effort you put in creating this pack, it’s really a beautiful pack.
Most of all, I’ve got here because I didn’t know what happened to the Ernst page, all his deviations just disappeared, at the beginning I thought something wrong with Deavart, but then I’ve got informed from Bruxo about what really happened.
I’m a little afraid to express my opinion, moreover my English isn’t that good, I could be easily misunderstood, but I think that honesty (even if it may be a dangerous thing in today’s world) is always the best way to deal in the life.
In one hand I guess Ernst has been too harsh and he overreacted, but in the other hand no body is perfect, anybody can possibly make mistakes, and under certain point of view I also understand him. Like him, although I use math every day because of my automatic machines job, I’m not good in math that concern graphics and trigonometry, so I apologize for commenting your presets, according to what you stated above I shouldn’t do either. Mercy on me!
You may ask yourself why I can possibly understand him, well, less than a year ago Steven Wittens then El-vis and some other artists made a big change in the avs development by using mostly the DM effect. Therefore the avs “art” got split in two categories, one deeply based on complexes DM/supercopes, and the other one still based on old effects and maybe simple DM and superscopes. The first one is surely the favorites and bigger and of course it got all the attention, the second one is mostly considered low level in which Ernst and me belong. As you may know designer from the “low category” gave up, like Indyrod, some other, and now maybe Ernst too. Despite I feel and see that a real distance grows up between those two categories I’m not giving up, as I said, if my presets on my poor opinion are at list decent I go on posting because I love designing when I’m off duty even though my avs got few comments, mostly just from Bruxo (The AVS Knight) and Ernst. If sometime I get some attention I also get stuff like “ugly”, “remove this”, ”change that” or (this is the best >>>) “I don’t know what you are doing here”, and so on.
Now, a couple of examples, the latest UnconeD preset “rollercoaster”, for Christ sake, the superscope he did is amazing, I’ve got shocked, really. But you know, I don’t play that preset so much because I like to see nice stuff moving smoothly together with the music beat, that’s what avs are all about. Although “rollercoaster” is a very high level preset, it got low music response because it’s all based on 3D projection and from the stunning Steven’s brain just by using one superscope, which is really cool, but, as Ernst said it looks like a cool scrensaver. What does mean so much 3D stuff if at the end is not really easy to see the music grabbing the preset and take it to dance?
After El-vis released his pack “Cyberpunk” I made an experiment. Here in my office I’ve a bunch of friends and colleagues, they absolutely don’t know anything about avs art, nothing at all, they even didn’t know staff like that exists. I’ve collected about 10 presets, the best from El-vis, UnConed and some other artists who use 3D projects DM, plus one of my favorites from Indyrod and Ernst. I’ve called all my friend and colleagues, I’ve asked to watch and I’ve played full screen all those presets together, 30 sec. random mode, for more than 10 minutes.
It turned out that mostly of them, about 60/70% prefer Ernst and Indyrod presets, not the others are bad, absolutely not, but the most common opinion was “they look cool but they don’t dance or change that much”. By the way, I almost forgot, they all got crazy especially for “The Box” preset from Catminddo, Marco, in that time the DM wasn’t available yet!
So, probably Ernst thinks mostly in terms of movements following music beat not just math technique and I’m still wondering why he stated “garbage”, this isn’t his usual way, to me it looks like he is paying you back about something you did to him before, but I don’t know anything, it’s just my feeling, I’m not a judge or jury so, don’t take it personally.

That’s all, and you definitely did a good job with this pack.

Fabrizio (the “old school” last one left)

A bunch of outstanding presets, all deserving of the 'focus' surname. I can basically see 3 different styles in this pack which you ellaborated on with a few presets:

1 - Metaballs DynMove (yellowsub, metaballs, sprialkingdom, etc) Truly a dynamic DynMove. I think it looks more natural than UnConeD's stuff, but that's just opinion. However, since it's such a complex DynMove it's a bit FPS costly. Now, I understand that I really shouldn't be one talking about such a thing after my last pack, but it's always something to keep an eye on. But I really liked some of the applications of it, cellularautomata being my fav from that group.

2 - Bump/Multiply Blend (iterated, hightech, networkengineer, etc) A really cool effect, I think I might have some fun with it. The fractal one looks superb, reminds me of that sudsy thing I did. The textures are great & the gradient of the bumps is always a lovely effect.

3 - 3-D scopes (101010101,roadtodigitopia,wormholing,et c) I sure wish I could do these things. They would have made making sW dD so much easier. Not only that, but their response is fantastic, can't complain there. Good FPS as well. I think your moving scopes & such look better than UnConeD's or El-Vis's. They just seem to work [link] ough, I would have put the SetRender mode on 2 line width, but that's just preference.

Alright, here's the point I'm trying to make: You've got some great great presets here. I'm truly in awe, however, some of them kinda repeat ideas. They're almost like remixes & such. I think variety is very important in any artform. It helps keep interest in the artwork. Now, as for the presets that don't fall into these catagories, that's was good, but there really should be more than 2 takes on the same idea. & if you do try something like that, make sure that there's some big differences.

Alright, I'm getting too critical, it's a killer pack, my fav by far has to be nightcrawlerII, I've never seen anything it & I don't have a clue how you did it. Excellent job.

& as for ernst . . . . oh well.

I almost couldn't stop staring at these magnifique presets, to write something about them. First thing, please don't "slim down those fat packs", presets are made to be "watched", not to be commented, and from a such creative artist like you, we (avs lovers) want more and more and more, even if one or another don't look so perfect to some avs artist. Of course, opinions or advices from your avs friends are very important, but please remember always, that are thousand of fans that don't care (or don't understand, like me) too much about the "formulas". The overall impact of your brilliant presets is simply stunning, amazing or any other good word someone can find. Now I hope to have enough time to completely dig your new masterpiece, before the DreamTeamAvs comes to life.

Even though i love soft edges, "hightech" was very appealing. Then there were these "neucleotide" and the amoeba movement of "window" with the softer beats of industrial, "Yin and Yang" and the final melding, colors like light peeking from behind in "nightcrawler!!," the fractalized, beautifully colored "iterated" I did love so. Also, the delicate though dark "bufferme" and "glowworm" moving across a dark sky, the innovative "Japanese fans", and finally "metaballs," "spiralkingdom" and "cellularatomata" were just plain fun to watch with their wonderful colors and slow motion efforts to separate. Yeah, favorite avs in this pack: "glowworm" and "iterated."

(gee i love ya david but 10 would be so much easier to evaluate at once "slim down those fat packs, babe" )

So this is the pack I've been waiting since Focus 3. Maybe the most expected pack in my avs
history. Let's see what you got here

01101011001: Really original idea, and it
works [link] times screen looks quite empty, so
maybe more effect would do some good, though it looks
brilliant just the way it looks now...

Metaballs:
Wow, really technically amazing preset, especially when
you see that there are no those damn monkeys [link]

Nucleotide:
woooaaaaahhh, I can't say how much I like this one.
I liked also the Focus 3 one, but you have improved this
very good. Colors are awesome and the flowing flower dynamove
is just brilliant. Visually and technically amazing preset.

Fractal:
Well, it looks really original preset but let's just
say that I've seen better fractal presets.. Good beat
detection though...

Glowworm:
Love it!!! When you published this at the first time at DA
I added it to my favourites and I think that tells how much I love this one.
One of the neatest preset what I have EVER seen.

Infectionlumps:
HOOOOOLYYYYYY SH*T, I haven't seen anything like this before, and I love
the effect what my eyes see here. But you know, the effect doesn't work at all
with noisy music, but when the music gets slow&quiet it looks awesome!!!

Inayellowsubmarine:
It looks quite trippy, but I don't like this
as much as the previous presets..
Don't know why but it's bad for my taste..

Japanese fans:
Not liking it, maybe cause it looks too simple, though it's
very technically amazing preset, and I know you've spent lots of
hours to improve this, but still...

Ravelishting:
Again a very tasty preset, and it responses to beat well.
but maybe you should improve the colors with Utone...

yinanddyang:
I like it very much, though other side of this stays black most
of the time, so maybe you could make the "black hole" little smaller, though with really
noisy the problem is solved...

Wormholeing:
WOW!!! Probably greatest superscope preset that I've ever seen.
Grea..NO..FANTASTIC work!!!

Window:
Very nice preset. Nice patterns&colors with perfect dynamove.
Like it alot.

Roadtodigitopia:
Again great superscope handeling, though liked more wormholeing..Still
a nice one.

Parafold:
How couldn't I like this. Very stylish preset with very interesting patterns and
colors. Lots of color compinations here and it looks fine with most of them.

Bufferme:
I'm not sure do I like this one. Preset itself looks good, but it has been done
about 1000 times before and with better result...

cellularautomata:
wooaaahh, you did it again. Colors of this are just awesome (gasoline styled looks nice), but
I need something to the background, maybe the superscope inside the 2nd fx list with some effect & with
different colors would to the trick..

Alternator:
Like the "bulb" effect what DDM creates. Colors are good also..

Clubbed to death:
Really modern preset, and I like it..

Dissent:
Colors are good, but it's way too simple & lazy to response to beat.
I think this would look lot better without that simple...

hightech:
AAAAhhhh, my eyes loves what they see here. Love the debth buufer impact here, and
the colors are very stylish. Responses to beat heavily and I love it.
Best preset so far.

Nightcrawler:
Very relaxing preset you got here. I love the variety what this pack has.
Very different kind of presets all around and all of them (so far) has been very quality..

Iterated:
Very clevered done fractal preset. Love the gloring colors which bumb makes.
Really cool preset. Maybe you should make it slide between -y and -x axis..
to extra beatdetection, though then you should remake lots of stuff here..

Spiralkingdom:
I love this because I see that you have improved this alot since the first version.
Very responsive like you said.

Computernethall:
Liked the other ssc based presets more, though this ain't bad either.

Napalm:
Really original idea again, but I don't like the textures here (same as Inayellowsubmarine),
though it's just personal...

Networkengineer:
I think this was your one of the first debth buffer works. It looks good but I prefer hightec
better..

Nightcrawler:
Nice motions here..Like it

I think here was all the presets. I have to say that these presets were REALLY original
and some of them were kind of notseenbeforeanywhere presets. Also you got a really variety pack, meaning
there were lots of different kind of presets, so there's something for everybody and so the pack
keeps water fresh long time.

Personal favs: Nucleo tide,Glowworm,Infectionlumps, hightech and Iterated

+faves

David, you have done it again, i loooove this.
me like:
glowworm, nice colors, nice dm
Infectiosu Lumps, Niiiiiceeee colors, i like the bump thing
Wormholing, kick ass wireframe tunneling
Road to Digitopia, don't want to sound repeditive but kick ass wireframe
Clubbed to Death: nice osc scope

but consider these things:
bumps looks good, but dont over do it
some presets had a feeling of non-finished
one metaball-dm preset is enough,

otherwise the pack was kick ass
