Description
For the Monet event atIt was well into the afternoon when the tiny bird - what a cute little thing he was! - had come, tapping on the window to the bakery with his teeny tiny beak. Rush hour had come and gone and few people were left in the store, so she had gone out to greet the bird, only to get a tiny slip of paper.
"A p-precious moment?" She thought and thought, but could not settle on one thing. "Little b-bird, do y-you mind if I-I take some t-time to t-think?" It had given her a tiny nod and went on its way. Of course, not before she could give it a little snack for the trip. The little fella appeared to have quite a bit of work to do.
A few hours passed since then and the sun was now hanging along the horizon. The bakery was closed for the day and she had gone to Diedrick's house. Even now, as she lay on the couch, eyes closed as she fiddled with the small golden paper, she couldn't think of anything to write. Or rather, she thought of too much to write. Far too much to put on such a small paper. What was something precious to her? She thought of home, the large mountains and her parents. Theo, Mirabelle, Pierce. All the people she knew so well in her hometown. And then she thought of here. The people who had come and gone. The people who she saw often and the people she didn't see at all anymore. It was really too much. How could she choose?
Her thoughts were interrupted by a heavy pressure on her stomach. She opened her eyes to look down at Reever, who seemed to perk up upon seeing that she hadn't fallen asleep on him. He licked her hand a few times as she tried to pet him, and then climbed half onto the couch until he could lay his head and arms across her stomach. Even though he was no longer a puppy, he would always try to curl up on her when she was sleeping. The little redhead laughed, closing her eyes again to think.
Another few hours had passed before her eyes opened again and, unfortunately, it wasn’t to the sound of the door unlocking or a familiar voice calling out “I’m hoooommee!” The clock on the wall read ten o’ clock. And yet the talkative brunette was nowhere to be found. She sat up, waking Reever in the process, and rubbed her eyes. “I-it’s so l-late…” She should’ve been back at the dorms by now, and, more importantly, it was definitely passed clock out time for Diedrick. “Should w-we go v-visit him, b-boy?” She received a loud bark in reply and Reever scampered off, aware that that meant a walk was coming. Ascher laughed and stretched a bit, before getting up and following after the canine.
Thankfully, the walk wasn’t long and she knew the path well (of course that still made her anxious about walking around the dark. She couldn’t really help it.). After asking around a little, she found Diedrick in one of the labs, fiddling with a small piece of machinery. He was more than happy to see her, cheering happily and going on (and on and on) about how he didn’t realize how the time had passed and about how he was working on this little device, which he was almost done with. What was it? A map, he told her. One of all the things they knew of in space, all of the stars they had seen and recorded. And with a silly grin on his face, he said, “Go on! Put a little bit of eden into it. You’ll love it! I promise.” And she did. It was amazing really, seeing the projection explode with little dots with names, distances. Planets, solar systems. She couldn’t do much but smile.
And it gave her an idea.
When she returned to the dorms that night, she finally sat down and scribbled on the little golden paper. She still couldn’t quite place an exact moment, and exact thing that she could write down. But this seemed like the closest she could get.
“Let’s go stargazing again.”
TL;DR: Ascher likes stars and, while she can't say I CHERISH THIS MEMORY or I CHERISH THIS PERSON, she has a lot of positive memories associated with stargazing. Including with people with from home and from the academy.
