If this is merely a piece you did as a "study," ... WOW! Your colours are so rich and natural, and your lines are so deliciously thick. You've put an incredible amount of detail into this, not only with all the little water droplets moistening her face, but even down to the texture of her skin--you can see the very pores on her forehead! There's an honesty in this piece, that you didn't shy away from even giving a very natural (almost purple) darkness under her eyes, yet she's still clearly very beautiful. When less talented artists (myself included) aim for that much realism, that much honesty, we somehow sacrifice beauty--it's really a challenge to be honest about the colouring and the lines and the imperfections that even a beautiful face has in real life without making it look ugly when translated to paper. Your work in this piece is very inspiring and challenging--I hope that someday I can paint portraits with accuracy, honesty, and realism, while maintaining the original subject's beauty--as you have accomplished in this piece. Very impressive!
