Description A Universe where Hemnis, human with mysterious super powers pop up among the population.  Most Hemnis now are teenage girls and menace the streets in roving gangs who wear costumes and commit acts for kicks.  Amelia Molloy was just a school teacher in the New York City school system who was concerned for these teens, but little was done about them and she just accepted the authorities actions on how to handle them with enforced curfews and streets of patrolling armored cars at night to keep the trouble at minimum.

Amelia didn't think much besides what the news media reported to her, and they had experts on who always were more qualified to make decisions.  Things were boiling to a head at the school and many of her co-workers said the army just ought to round them up.  Especially after several Hemnis caused events where their powers hurt several of their fellow students, sometimes intentionally.  Amelia didn't know what to do or say, it wasn't her expertise to do anything.  Then one night, a gang of Hemnis broke into her home and threatened her husband and her two daughters.  Amazingly she found the fearful event activated hidden Hemnis powers of her own, and she defeated the teens thanks to her powers making her quite invulnerable to her attacks and strong enough to bend steel bars.  Amelia felt bad for one of the Hemnis she recognized as a student of hers, but decided that she now had a purpose.  To use her powers to show other younger Hemnis to use their powers in a socially responsible way.  Her brother, a costumer for Broadway shows created her costume on her concept, that she would be known as Lady Liberty, defender of New York City.

However going out and battling her fellow Hemnis on the street was not so easy, but her power set made her hard enough to clean the streets of the most ardent Hemnis criminals.  However her constant cursing and ranting about the conditions the Hemnis created for others on the streets and her complaints about how everyone ignored important social issues earned her a nickname from the media, "THE BITTERNESS"

Stinging at the name given to her by the media, The Bitterness still patrols New York City desperately trying to improve the ways her fellow empowered Hemnis treat others.

NOTE: The Bitterness was created several years ago for all the stereo typical characters that are created by New York Comic Book Publishers for places that aren't New York City, such as Arkansas Razorback, Texas Twister, Bandera, BeefEater, to name just a few.  I thought it would be good idea to create a superhero based on a stereotypical New Yorker.  I based Amelia's design on Callista Flockheart, from her Ally McBeal days.  Drawn 2003.
